This module is a project of the Curriculum Implementation Division particularly the

Learning Resource Management and Development Unit, Department of Education, Schools
Division of Mountain Province which is in response to the implementation of the K to 12
Curriculum.

What is It

Lanscape arrtists have different styles in painting although there are

things which they follow in common. What is a landscape?
A landscape is an artwork showing a natural scene of land or countryside.
In drawing or painting a landscape, it is important to divide the picture into
three parts.

 The three parts of a picture, drawing or painting are:
Foreground. The foreground is the front view of a drawing or painting.
The color of the objects in the foreground is usually the darkest.

Middle ground. The middle ground is the middle or center focus of the
drawing or painting. The color of the objects or view in the middle ground is
very strong. It is prevailing.
Background. The background is usually the back view of the painting
or drawing. It has the lightest color.

The foreground shows the ground from which the scene or action started.
As seen in the painting, the family came from the foreground.

The middle ground or focus of the painting is on the family,their home,

their activity and their farm.

The background of the painting is the sky.

There are also different techniques in coloring used by the artists in

drawing or painting. These are the following:
1. pointillism – This is a technique wherein tiny spots of different colors are
used on the surface of a drawing or painting.
2. cross-hatching – This is a technique in shading by repeating crossed lines
to show thickness, deepness and texture of a drawing.

3. layering – This is a technique wherein different colors lie over or
under one another to color a drawing or painting.

This is an example of a landscape painting where pointillism is used as a

technique in coloring. This is an artwork of Prudencio Lamarroza.

Different landscape artists have different styles in drawing or

painting.

There are three parts of a landscape drawing or painting that artists follow.
They are the foreground, middle ground and background.
Lanscape artists also use different techniques in coloring or shading their
artworks. These are pointillism, cross-hatching and layering.
