FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3-4, 2023
GENERAL INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

Congratulations on your acceptance into the 2023 JH AAS Ensembles! We are looking forward to bringing our
zone’s talented musicians together to rehearse and perform high quality music under gifted and inspiring
conductors. Please review all the information in this packet and work hard to prepare your part.
Instruments, Music, and Equipment:

➔ STRING ORCHESTRA musicians should bring a wire music stand. Be sure it is labeled with your
name/school.
➔ Large instruments can be stored overnight at the school in room H117 (in the band/orchestra hallway)
if needed.
➔ Cello and bass students must use a rockstop on the hardwood rehearsal and stage floors.
➔ All music is to be returned at the conclusion of the concert. If music is missing or is found to be
damaged, the ensemble chairperson will contact the student’s music teacher to resolve the situation.
Expectations:
➔ Registration will be held from 3:30-4:00 pm. Students must be registered by a chaperone or teacher
from your school. A chaperone or teacher from each school must be available at all times in case of
emergency. Chaperones must sign in at the registration table both days and leave a cell phone
number.
➔ Students must remain on campus at all times during the festival. Your school district rules for field trips
as well as NYSSMA policies will be in effect at all times.
➔ No gum, food, or drink (other than water) is allowed in the rehearsal areas. Snacks will be available
for purchase during breaks.
➔ There is the option to purchase dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday. If you wish to purchase a
Friday dinner and/or Saturday lunch, please pre-order your meal for $15 through your school music
teacher.
Area All-State Shirt Sale:
T-shirts will be available for purchase on Friday and Saturday during the Area All-State Festival.
$15 each - CASH ONLY
No pre-orders, just first come, first served at the Festival!

Concert Dress:
All students participating in Area All-State are expected to abide by basic concert dress
requirements to maintain a consistent and professional look to our ensembles.
STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THESE DRESS REQUIREMENTS
MAY NOT BE ALLOWED TO PERFORM IN THE CONCERT
Concert dress: black pants, dark color mid-length skirt or slacks, white dress shirt/neck tie, white blouse,
dark shoes
ATTENTION ALL PERFORMERS:Skirts that are above the knee must be worn with solid black stockings.
Girls who will perform seated must wear bottoms that fall below the knee while seated.
The following items are absolutely prohibited:

● Flip-flops or high heeled shoes
● Bare shoulders or spaghetti straps
● Bare midriff
● Patterned or fishnet stockings
● Skirts or dresses that are revealing or have a slit
➔ Students must arrive in concert dress on Saturday. There will not be time or space for students
to change into concert dress on Saturday.
Concerts:
➔ The concerts on Saturday, November 4th will take place as follows
◆ 1:00 PM - String Orchestra, SSA Chorus, and SATB Chorus
◆ 4:00 PM - Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Concert Band
◆ Tickets will be sold at the registration desk on Friday and throughout the breaks on Friday, as
well as before the concerts on Saturday. All tickets are general admission and will be $7.
◆ To help alleviate some of the traffic in the concert hall lobby, please consider purchasing
tickets ahead of time!
➔ Concert doors will open 30 minutes before each performance.
➔ The Concert will be in the Akron High School Auditorium. The address is 47 Bloomingdale Ave, Akron
NY 14001. You will enter the front of the school by the flag poles. Parking is available on either side of
the school as well as across the street.
Questions:
➔ If you have questions, please check with your school music teacher. They will most likely have the
answer. If not, your school music teacher knows who to contact.
➔ We ask that students and parents do NOT contact festival administration directly.
