32. A ladder 10 meters long is leaning against a wall. The base of the ladder is sliding away from the wall
at a rate of 2 m/s. Find the rate at which the top of the ladder is sliding down the wall when the base of
the ladder is 6 meters away from the wall.
33. In a class of 40 students, 20 study Mathematics, 15 study Physics, and 10 study both Mathematics and
Physics. If a student is selected at random, find the probability that the student studies:
a) Mathematics only.
b) Physics only.
c) Neither Mathematics nor Physics.
34. Find the area of the triangle formed by the points A(1, 2, 3), B(4, 5, 6), and C(7, 8, 9)

36. (a) Find the inverse of the matrix A = [3 2; 4 5].


(b) Show that AA-1 = I, where A-1 is the inverse of matrix A and I is the identity matrix.

37. (a) Evaluate the determinant of the matrix A = [2 1 0; -1 2 3; 0 3 1].


(b) Using the properties of determinants, prove that |A| = |-A|.

38. (a) Find the points of discontinuity of the function f(x) = |x|.
(b) For the given function f(x), determine the points where it is continuous.

39. (a) Two dice are thrown simultaneously. Find the probability of getting a sum of 7 or 11.
(b) Two cards are drawn successively without replacement from a well-shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find
the probability that both cards are kings.

40. Given the matrix A = [3 2 -4; 1 0 2; -2 1 5] and matrix B = [1 2; -1 3; 2 -1], find the product of matrices A
and B.

41. Solve the system of equations using determinants:

3x + 2y - z = 4

x - y + 2z = -3

2x + y + 3z = 7

42. (a) Find the value of 'a' for which the function f(x) = |x - 2| - ax is continuous at x = 2.

44. Case Study 2: A company recorded the monthly sales (in thousands of dollars) of three
products, P1,P2, and P3, over a period of 4 months. The sales data is represented in the matrix
A as follows:

Question:
(a) Find the transpose of matrix A.
(b) Find the determinant of matrix A.
(c) Calculate the sum of the elements in the first row of matrix A.
45. Case Study 3: The temperature of a liquid in a container is represented by the function
T(x) = x3 - 5x2 +8x + 10, where x represents the time in minutes.
Question:
(a) Determine the rate of change of temperature with respect to time at x = 2 minutes.
(b) Find the average rate of change of temperature from x = 1 minute to x = 3 minutes.
(c) Is the temperature increasing or decreasing over the interval x = 0 to x = 4 minutes? Justify your
answer.
