An ESD can be caused by either the local
or remote system initiating an ESD and
causing the pressure in the system to be
dumped out of the exhaust fitting on the
bottom of the USL enclosure or by a
pressure leak in the hose system joining
the two systems.
When the system pressure drops below
the ESD set point the local pressure
switch will cause an ESD on the USL
control and send an ESD signal to the
local control system.
This will be mirrored on the remote
system.

For transfers using a USL at both ends it

is recommended that the transferring

can never be set healthy.

Each time the system is used, there must

be a short sequence of tests to check the
system and to establish the required link
between the transferring and receiving

procedures are undertaken prior to
forming the link between ship and shore;
others are undertaken afterwards.

Once a shut-down has occurred, either the

detecting the cause of the shutdown if this
is not immediately apparent. Both green

The USL Pneumatic System has been To connect two pneumatic systems

In its most basic form it is a pressurised hose.
umbilical hose connected at both ship and
shore ends to a pressure monitoring
system.
The USL-8810 Pneumatic system has
only two configurable aspects –

System Pressure
This is the pressure of the whole system
Set by the filter regulator on the bottom of
the USL system.

ESD set point

This is the pressure at which the pressure
switch passes an ESD to the USL control
electronics.

The difference between these two

pressures has a direct effect on the time
taken to evacuate enough volume of air to
drop the system pressure below the ESD
set point. Figure 20 – Pneumatic Hose Reel
This time lag is directly affected by the
size of the installed system and the This hose is connected to the jetty
distance of the pressure switch to the connection box (see Fig15) and the
pressure leak/dump as such the system shipside connection box (see Fig16)
cannot be calibrated until commissioning.

Also any subsequent alteration of system

pressure or set point will alter the time lag
between pressure drop to ESD.

To connect two Pneumatic systems

together these two figures need to be
communicated between operatives to
guarantee the systems will both operate in
a timely manner.

We aim for a 1 second delay between

pressure drop and ESD on the USL
system, this is not meant to be an
accurate measurement and as such an
estimation of 1 second is sufficient.

Trelleborg for repair if damage is found.
User maintenance consists of a wipe with
a damp cloth.
The Functionality Check performed in
section 3.2.4 is sufficient to check
operability.

With some systems a lot of pipe work is pressure
required between the USL and the
jetty/shipside box, in this case when the

if in the event of a remote ESD (the
opposite system dumping the air) the local
system is pressurising the system at too
great a volume there will be an increased
time lag until the local system sees the
remote ESD or in some extreme cases the
local system will remain healthy.
To make sure this cannot happen the
system is fitted with a volume restrictor
needle valve, this valve needs to set
correctly at system commissioning and to
be checked periodically.

To set up the restrictor valve –

4.6 USL-8823 Pneumatic Hose

Umbilical Reel

The Umbilical reel consists of a 25m

antistatic hose wound onto a Stainless
Steel powder coated hand carry reel.
On each end of the hose is a ½”BSPP
stainless steel swaged fitting fitted with a
½” Snaptite male connector with a bonded
seal between the two and a rubber sealing
cap for when not in use.

The maintenance regime consists of -

Inspection of the hose, connector and

sealing cap
We recommend an inspection of the
connectors prior to each use.
Cleaning should not be required if the
rubber sealing caps have been fitted.
If these have been left off, connect one
end of the hose to a source of
compressed air (not high pressure) to
remove any foreign object that may have
entered the unprotected hose ends.

use.

Conditions Of Certification/Special Conditions For Safe Use

i. The CB9260 is an associated apparatus intended for installation in a non-hazardous

area. The device shall be installed in a location or an external enclosure that provides an
ingress protection of at least IP20. The installer shall ensure that the relevant installation
requirements of IEC 60079-14 are met, including (but not limited to) the following separations
between the CB9260 and other terminals and conductors:
6 mm clearance between the intrinsically safe terminals and those of another intrinsically safe
circuit
3 mm clearance between the intrinsically safe terminals and any earthed metal
50 mm between the intrinsically safe terminals of the CB9260 and the non-intrinsically safe
terminals of other equipment.

ii. The quoted entity parameters of Co and Lo are applicable for the distributed capacitance and
inductance in cable. Where there is circuit capacitance or inductance in the connected equipment
(represented by Ci and Li respectively), then these values shall not exceed 50% of the quoted Co and
Lo.

The Intrinsic parameters for PCB 9260 are shown below

Ui = 250Vac

Uo = 26.04V
Io = 168.61mA
Po = 1.098W
Co = 0.76µF
Lo = 5.002mH

Appendix C - Data Sheets

PCB 9260 Data sheet

The PCB 9260 provides a variety of IS functions tailored for use in the Marine Sector. The
board provides an isolated, limited voltage and current source that is Safe for use in
hazardous areas and also provides control and monitoring of this Supply from the Safe side.
The PCB may be present in several pieces of equipment but the connections to the
Hazardous area are identical in all cases (although all may not be used), the diagram below
shows these connectors and their parameters.

Fig(1.0)

Connector J3 in Fig 1.0 is connected to the safe area and used to control and monitor the
PCB, this connector is normally connected to a 24V system but is rated to

Ui 250Vac.

Connectors CON1, CON2, CON4, J1 and J2 form part of the intrinsic safe circuit and as
such share the following parameters.

Uo = 26.04V
Io = 168.61mA
Po = 1.098W
Co = 0.76µF
Lo = 5.002mH

Note:- There is only one IS supply and the Io is a maximum current available in the system,
i.e. multiple connectors cannot be connected to provide more than Io.

Figure 1.1 above shows how the equipment label might look on white and on silver label
stock. The Equipment model and Serial number will be amended to suit the relevant
equipment; in all cases the following special conditions and entity parameters and all other
safety relevant data shall be within the final user instructions (regardless of document name
or number) and that the end user shall have access to this information in the user manual for
the equipment in appendix ‘a’ of said manual.
