Introduction

In an era that is dominated by digital connections, knowing the influence of social media

on the well-being of ICT students is critical. This study explores the intricate relationships of

social media usage and the social-psychological elements of students engaged in Information and

Communication Technology studies at Notre Dame of Trece Martirez. Social media usage and its

impact on the social-psychological aspects of ICT students at Notre Dame of Trece Martirez is

the focus of our research. Social media refers to online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram,

and Twitter where people connect, share information, and communicate. Social-psychological

aspects encompass emotions, behaviors, and thoughts influenced by social interactions. Our study

aims to delve into how ICT students' use of social media affects their mental well-being,

interpersonal relationships, as well as academic performance.

The intricate relationship between social media usage and the social-psychological

aspects of students enrolled in Information and Communication Technology programs is a

compelling area of investigation. Within the academic realm of Notre Dame of Trece Martirez,

the convergence of technology and human behavior unfolds as students navigate the challenges

and opportunities presented by the digital age. Our investigation specifically involves examining

how frequently ICT students engage with social media platforms. We'll analyze the duration of

usage, types of content consumed, and the emotional responses triggered by these interactions. By

understanding these patterns, we seek to determine whether extensive social media use correlates

with feelings, anxiety, or enhanced social connections among students. Additionally, we aim to

and social skills. The findings indicate that social media use might have both positive and

negative effects on ICT students' socio-psychological well-being. Ultimately, this study aspires to

contribute to a better understanding and to provide valuable insights of the digital landscape's

influence on the lives of ICT students, educators, and parents and also to provide awareness of

these consequences and advocate appropriate and healthy social media use among young people.

Statement of the Problem

This study is conducted to determine the relationship between Social Media Usage and
Social-Psychological aspects of ICT students at Notre Dame of Trece Martirez, examining both
positive and negative influences.
The specific objectives of the study are the following:

1. How does the frequency and length of social media use among Notre Dame of Trece
Martirez ICT students affect their academic performance and general productivity?

2. How does social media use affect students' psychological well-being?

3. What could be the possible impact of social media usage on Notre Dame ICT students?

Objectives of the study

This research is to investigate and analyze the relationship between the frequency,

duration, and types of social media usage among ICT students at Notre Dame of Trece Martirez

and their social-psychological well-being. This study aims to examine how social media

engagement influences their emotional responses, interpersonal relationships, and academic

performance, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the multifaceted impact of social

media on the holistic development of ICT students in the institution.

Significance of the study

This study is conducted to benefit from the following:

Students of Notre Dame of Trece Martirez. This study will help them know the distractions

caused by different social media platforms and also its impact on their academic performances. In

addition, understanding how social media affects their social and psychological aspects can help

students in managing their online behavior, promoting healthier usage, and enhancing their well

being.

Educational Institutions. Findings could aid institutions in developing guidelines or

interventions to support students in balancing their social media engagement with their academic

and personal development.

Healthcare Providers. It can offer insights into the psychological factors affecting students,

aiding healthcare professionals in providing holistic care to address both physical and mental

health needs.
Teachers. The given data will guide teachers what to do with students who use social media a lot

and what their behaviors are during class time. The teachers would be able to understand why

they show that behavior in classes because of social media and later on, help them.

Parents. Parents can understand the impact of the excessive use of social media without knowing

that their children's behavior has been affected. The given data would help them formulate some

preventive measures to help their sons from avoiding prolonged use of social media.

Scope and Delimitation

This study is focused on examining two variables: Social Media Usage and

Social-Psychological aspect of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in Notre

Dame of Trece Martirez. The research will focus on Grade 11 and 12 ICT students enrolled

during the 2023-2024 academic year. The Respondents will be fifty (50) and above in Grade

11-12 ICT students in Notre Dame of Trece Martirez. In addition, the respondents will be chosen

randomly.

This study is confined to Grade 11 and 12 ICT students in Notre Dame of Trece Martirez.

The focus is only on ICT (Information and Communication Technology) students and other

strands are not included. We will not include those who do not study in Notre Dame of Trece

Martirez. Therefore, our participants are Grade 11-12 ICT students in Notre Dame School. The

findings may only apply to this specific group, limiting broader generalizations about other

sections or student populations within the school.

We hypothesize that increased frequency and prolonged duration of social media use

among ICT students at Notre Dame of Trece Martirez will correspond to varying impacts on their

academic performance, productivity, and socio-psychological well-being. Specifically, we

anticipate that extensive engagement with social media platforms will potentially correlate with

reduced academic performance, including challenges in concentration and time management.

Additionally, we predict that heightened social media usage might lead to heightened levels of

social anxiety while potentially facilitating enhanced social connections among students.

Furthermore, we expect that the impact of social media usage on ICT students at Notre

Dame will demonstrate a dual nature, presenting both negative and positive aspects. We anticipate

negative implications such as decreased productivity and increased social anxiety alongside

positive influences like expanded social networks and opportunities for information sharing and

connection. Ultimately, our hypothesis posits that social media usage among ICT students will

exhibit a complex relationship, influencing various facets of their academic and

socio-psychological experiences in nuanced ways.
