I. INTRODUCTION

Studying the single parent's journey is of paramount

importance in today's society for a multitude of reasons. Single

parenthood has become increasingly prevalent, with a growing

number of families led by a single parent. This trend is driven

by various factors, including divorce, separation, choice, or

unforeseen circumstances such as the loss of a partner. The

single parent's journey is a topic that merits our attention and

investigation for several compelling reasons. Also, according to

the World Health Organization (WHO), 2023 survey there are 14 to

15 billion solitary parents in the Philippines. The journey of

parenthood is a remarkable and transformative experience that

individuals undertake when they become parents. It marks the

beginning of a lifelong commitment to caring for and nurturing a

new life. Single parenthood is a contemporary family structure

that has become increasingly prevalent in today's society. It is

a distinctive and challenging way of raising children, where one

individual shoulders the responsibilities typically shared by

two parents. Single parents, whether by choice or circumstance,

navigate a unique set of trials and triumphs as they strive to

provide emotional, financial, and moral support for their

children. In this introduction, we will explore the various

aspects of single parenthood, from its causes and effects to the

strengths and support systems that can empower single parents to

successfully navigate the complex journey of raising children on

their own. This topic focuses on the unique challenges and

obstacles faced by individuals who are both single parents and

business owners.

Furthermore, according to Karanikonos et al., 2013. It has

been believed that entrepreneurship is an essential instrument

for the majority of countries' expansion and development, thus

the worldwide financial crisis and the ensuing recession.

Moreover, studying single parenthood allows us to look

into how our culture is changing in terms of family structures.

As societal norms and values evolve, it is critical to

understand how single-parent households function and contribute

to our common social fabric ( Teniola and Olawale, 2019) Also,

according to Ismael et al. 2016, business may be an achievable

potential for single-parent business owners to enhance their

financial status. In this way, business offers them the most

realistic method of increasing their income, being

self-sufficient, and being recognized as contributing to

society. Single-parent entrepreneurs have the potential to

improve their financial situation and create jobs for others.

The current study looks into the difficulties that single-parent

entrepreneurs come across when running their businesses. More

so, it is essential for encouraging single-parent entrepreneurs

to understand the difficulties, what motivates them to become

entrepreneurs, and the corresponding difficulties that affect

their entrepreneurial goals. According to lancker et al.,2015.

Most countries believe business is a significant factor in

stimulating growth and development. It's crucial to follow a

single parent's journey both personally and socially for reasons

like empowerment and support. Single parents frequently face

difficult challenges like juggling work and family obligations,

supporting their children emotionally, and managing the

emotional and financial strains of single parenthood.

This paper examines the problem by examining the

difficulties faced by single-parent business owners who want to

maintain the businesses they own, enhance their quality of life,

and support societal advancement. According to L. Granek

(2014), single parents have less time hence are less likely to

be able to monitor their kids. They lacked a partner who helps

in sharing household responsibilities. When single parents also

take on the role of business owners, the complexities of their

journey become even more pronounced. Studying the single

parent's journey as business owners is important to students

because It offers insightful information and lessons that are

beneficial to students. Their experiences can encourage young

people to take on obstacles, endure hardship, and follow their

entrepreneurial goals. because they frequently face particular

challenges—like managing the demands of business ownership with

family responsibilities—single parents exhibit resilience and

determination. Their experiences can help to emphasize the

resiliency, determination, and work values needed to

successfully navigate these difficulties. Also, because they

might not have as much time, money, or support as other parents,

single parents need to be resourceful and flexible in their

business endeavors. By observing how they solve intricate

problems and modify their business plans, students can learn

important problem-solving techniques and resourcefulness.

Studying the experiences of single parents who run their

businesses is crucial because it promotes diversity, economic

empowerment, and social impact while teaching students

invaluable life lessons in resilience, problem-solving, time

management, and empathy. These realizations can mold successful,

kind, and well-rounded people who are equipped to face the

difficulties of today's society.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Single parents who start their businesses face unique and

varied problems that might affect their business success and

well-being.

The study focuses on answering the following questions;

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of;

1.1 sex;

1.2 age;

1.3 type of business;

2. What are the difficulties of running a business with their

parental duties and commitments?

3. What tactics do they use to overcome these difficulties?

4. What are the suggestions and recommendations they can give to

aspiring parent-entrepreneurs?

III. Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will find the respondents in their

selected barangay in San Isidro. The selected barangay are San

roque and Sto cristo. The researchers will ask barangay

employees how many business owners are single parents, they will

ask the people they know in that barangay. The researchers

Before the interview began, the purpose and terms of concerns

about confidentiality were handled. Following that, responders

were personally asked whether it was okay to use an audio

recording as the conversation continued.

Following this, a semi-structured interview was held; the

researchers began the interview procedure including

"get-to-know-you questions" to make the participants

comfortable. The respondents will be asked focused questions,

such based on the type of business entity that respondents

owned, the obstacles they have in being a single parent and a

business owner at the same time, the strategies they used to

deal with such challenges, and the advice they may provide to

other business owners who are also single parents.

Immediately following the interview, researchers are now

organizing the information. Following data analysis, they

interpretation with the help of related studies to provide

a clear conclusion that leads the research questions in the

study.

IV. Data Gathering Instrument

To collect data from the respondents, the researchers

employed a variety of research methods. It also aided the

researchers in gathering the exact and accurate data required

for their research.

The instruments used to collect data include the following:

Semi-structured interview

The researchers employed a semi-structured interview

because it includes both closed and open-ended questions, and

respondents do not have to limit themselves in answering the

questions for more extensive elaboration and expression.

According to KnowHow (2018), semi-structured interviews are a

good approach to cover a variety of topics and ensure that vital

information is noted in a one-on-one interview.

Face-to-face interview

As stated by Bhasin (2022), face-to-face interview, also

called in-person interview, has remained the most effective way

of data collecting because it allows researchers to interact

with respondents to gain a deeper understanding of their

viewpoints and experiences. between the researcher and the

participant which can provide important information about

nonverbal cues that may not be captured through other methods.

Audio Recording

The researchers used an audio recorder to obtain the most

accurate information from the replies. The audio recorder

allowed the researchers to hear what the respondents had to say

during the session without having to ask them to repeat

themselves. The researchers did not risk losing focus by

attempting to answer the questions in this fashion. Recording

the interview ensures that all information presented is

firsthand, which is a more effective mode of communication

(Chen, 2020).
V. Research Locale

The researchers will conduct this study in San Isidro Nueva

Ecija, There will be selected Single Parents in San Roque and

Sto. Cristo San Isidro, N.E . The place was chosen because it is

where the respondents of the study are located. The barangay

will help the researchers gather information and ideas about

their strategies for single parents as business owners.

VI. Subject or Participants

The respondents are business owners who are also single

parents. They have found it difficult to balance managing a home

and a business. The researchers selected these individuals based

on the likelihood that they possess the data required to respond

to the study's inquiries. Only single parents with at least five

months of experience running their businesses will be

interviewed by the researchers. The selected respondent(s)

possess a variety of attributes, such as being a single parent,

actively managing a business, having previous experience

operating a business, handling challenges head-on, and more.

These respondents were chosen by the researchers because it's

very likely that they know it is necessary to respond to the

questions posed. The study's conclusions will give the

researchers enough data to use as a guide for their future

research.

Sampling Technique

Snowball sampling was used as a result of the initial or

current participants' availability and willingness to suggest or

introduce others. It will be difficult to locate a single

parent who will talk about their business. In these

circumstances, the researcher can easily track a few categories

to interview and obtain conclusions using this technique. When a

subject tends to be delicate and not generally discussed, such

as when conducting surveys to learn about people's challenges,

researchers may also use this sampling technique. Few lone

parents will voluntarily answer the questions. However, to reach

the respondents and gather information, researchers can get in

touch with people they may know or volunteers connected to the

cause. According to Kassiani Nikolopoulou, (2023), snowball

sampling is a non-probability sampling technique in which

current units attract new units to form part of the sample.

Using snowball sampling can be a beneficial strategy for

researching people with unique characteristics that are

difficult to recognize. This allows the researchers to get rich,

detailed data through interviews. This might contain personal

stories, viewpoints, and experiences that offer a full

understanding of the people under research.
