INTRODUCTION 2

 The term six stroke engine describes two different

approaches in the internal combustion engines, to
improve its efficiency and reduce emissions.
CROWER SIX STROKE ENGINE 3

WORKING PRINCIPLE:
 The six strokes included in the crower’s engine are:

1. Intake stroke
2. Compression stroke
3. Power stroke
4. Exhaust stroke
5. Steam power stroke
6. Steam exhaust stroke

• 1:2 teeth ratio is converted into 1:3
• 34 teeth cam sprocket is replaced by 42 teeth and 17 teeth
crankshaft sprocket is replaced by 14 teeth.

 HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM
This system utilizes the waste heat from the burnt fuel and
exhaust steam. Water tank is placed inside the recovery tank. At same
time the exhaust burnt gases and the steam passes through this tank
and there by continuously transferring the heat to the water before
injecting it to the cylinder.
VELOZETA SIX STROKE ENGINE 8

WORKING PRINCIPLE
 All the first 4-strokes are carried in the same way as the crower
engine.
 The difference is carried out at the last two strokes of the
combustion process.
 At the 5th stroke pure air is injected into the cylinder and pulls down
the piston.
 After expansion, outlet valve is opened and air is pushed out by the
piston.
WORKING PRINCIPLE 9

➢ During 5th stroke, exhaust valve remains open and

main reed valve closes. Fresh air from air filter enter
into cylinder through secondary reed valve
through secondary air induction line. Here, piston
move from TDC to BDC.

➢ During 6th stroke, air sucked into the cylinder during

5th stroke is removed through exhaust manifold by
opening main reed valve. At this time secondary reed
valve will be closed.

SECONDARY AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM
 It supplies air which is used in 5th and 6th stroke.
 During 5th stroke air is sucked into the cylinder through secondary
reed valve in the air induction line.
 In 6th stroke main reed valve opens and mixture of air and unburned
gases are pushed out.

CAM LOBES
 360 degrees of cam has divided into 60 degrees among six strokes.
 Inlet valve is opened in 1st stroke only and the exhaust valve in 4th,
5th and 6th strokes by exhaust valve cam.
 The exhaust valve cam is double lobed.

ANALYSIS 12

FUEL FLOW RATE

The amount of fuel flow to the engine per unit time is called fuel flow
rate.

As the diagram shows the fuel flow rate of 6 stroke is 40-50% lesser than
conventional 4 stroke
ANALYSIS 13

THERMAL EFFICIENCY
The thermal efficiency of the engine is the power produced by the
engine to the power available from fuel.

The thermal efficiency of 4 stroke lies between 20-30% whereas in 6 stroke

it lies between 30-45%.
ANALYSIS 14

BRAKE SPECIFIC FUEL CONSUMPTION

It is the ratio of fuel consumption per second to the brake power.

Brake specific fuel consumption of 6 stroke engine is much lower than the
conventional 4 stroke.
ADVANTAGES 15

 Reduction in fuel consumption by at least 40%

 Dramatic reduction in pollution up to 65%
 High thermal efficiency
 Lower engine temperature
 Due to more air intake, cooling system is improved
DISADVANTAGES 16

 There are chances of entry of water in the fuel

 Engine size and weight increases due to additional components
 In cold regions, anti-freezing measures would be needed in the
water reservoir
 Complex head design
 Complex cam design for exhaust(due to two exhaust strokes)
 Manufacturing cost is higher
CONCLUSION 17

Six stroke engine has many advantages like high thermal

efficiency, low fuel consumption, low emission. However
drawbacks like initial starting problem, availability of water
are also associated. The starting problem can be
eliminated by using heater or glow plug and coupling a dc
motor as prime mover to the engine. Now a days research
and experiments are going on to modify the engine further
and to make it for practical purpose.
