Setting goals

What are goals?

- They are ideas that one envisions, strives towards and commits to achieving

Why is it important to set goals?

1. It encourages us to create an action plan so we ae able to turn those ideas into reality
2. It holds you accountable to yourself
3. Encourages you to be the best version of yourself

There are different types of goals based on the length of time it takes to achieve those goals

Short-term

Medium-term

Long-term

Achievable within a year and can be easily achieved, giving one a step-up towards achieving
their medium-term goals
Achievable within two to five years and can be seen as big stepping stones to achieving one’s
long-term goals
Achievable in up to ten years and can be seen as the top goal that require steps
SMART Goals

These are goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-based

Values, Choices and Goals

Values: Fundamental beliefs that guide your actions and attitudes


Choices: Act of making a decision between two or more options
Goals: Ideas for the future that one envisions, strives towards and commits to achieving

Prioritizing life goals’

- Specify which area of your life your goal is in (social goal, educational goal, family goal, etc.)

- The things we are willing to give our effort, dedication and time to must surely be the things that
we value and care deeply about.

- Our values have a profound impact on our choices, and so when you set goals, you may be faced
with the question, "How will I achieve these goals?"

- To prioritize is to treat something as most important and, therefore, deal with it first.
When we prioritize our life goals, we focus our actions on achieving the goals that are most
important at the time. Prioritizing gives us a better ability to balance all our priorities.

Refocusing our goals
