Title Learning and Development on 21st Century Teachers’ Skills for Diverse Learners’ Needs and
Contexts
Rationale
Today’s educational realm is full of multiple perspectives, technologies, and opportunities for
students and educational leaders.
For teachers, 21 st century teaching requires utilizing everything that is essential in today’s world so
that learners will be able to live and prosper in today’s economy, and to prepare them for the future.
As students today continue to change and evolve in the areas of technology and access to
information, the core values of being consistent, firm, and fair with their learning remain true.
Prior to the learners’ learning skills, teachers in the 21 st century are facilitators of the learning
where in the focus is on students by developing higher order thinking skills, effective communication,
collaboration, and global citizenship.
As emphasized by Dennis Van Roekel, president of National Education Association, April 2010,
public schools must prepare our young people to understand and address global issues, and educators
must re-examine their teaching strategies so that all students can thrive in this global and independent
society.
More so, the current efforts of the Department of Education are towards developing learning
resources, upskilling and retooling teachers of the 21st century. Hence, the Learning and Development on
21st Century Teachers’ Skills for Diverse Learners’ Needs and Contexts shall be conducted in Aglipay West
District, SDO Quirino.
Program/Course
Description This Learning and Development on teachers’ skills, roles and responsibilities in the 21 st century is a
teaching-learning package addressing diverse learners’ needs and contexts in today’s most pressing
times. This is a training that purposively caters teachers’ needs along teaching strategies to develop

students’ critical and creative thinking; learning facilitators’ way of planning managing, and
implementing developmentally sequenced teaching and learning process for diverse learners’ needs and
contexts; and to ensure quality, liberating, effective, accessible, and relevant basic education, maximum
participation to professional networks is deemed necessary among all teachers regardless of their career
progression.
