MODULE DESCRIPTION
Aim The aim of this module is to introduce students to the different
production and operations activities that take place in companies
and organizations, and to examine how strategic and tactical
decisions are made. Emphasis is given both to familiarization of
various production processes and service systems, and to
quantitative analysis of problems/issues arising in the
management of operations
Learning Outcomes At the end of the module, the student will be able to:
LO1: Explain the main functions of the area of operations
management.
LO2: Design production and operations using appropriate tools
and use how they relate to the overall strategies of
organizations.
LO3: Apply appropriate tools and techniques related to
decision making in managing forecasting, production
planning and managing operation in the area of business.
LO4: Apply production and service operations to identify
inefficiencies and propose changes to improve the
process.
LO5: Utilize basic analytical tools and methods for the planning
and management in the area of production and operations.
Assessment Criteria Assessment Description:
Table below lists the assessment components. Mid-semester exam
of 1 hour’s duration will cover first two learning objectives.
Learning objective two and three will be covered in the
Assignment. Duration of the end of semester examination is two
hours and it will cover learning objective four and five.
Assessment Activities:
Mid-Semester examination 20% LO1, LO2

End of Semester Examination 50% LO4, LO5
