DuPont Ultrafiltration Modules - General Design Guidelines[5]

The purpose of this document is to serve as General Design Guidelines for the design and operation of DuPont Ultrafiltration products. Project-
specific conditions of water quality, system design, operation and project drivers (CAPEX vs. OPEX vs. Total Water Cost) should be discussed and
reviewed with a DuPont Water Solutions Technical Service Representative.

Recipes: Notes:
[1]
Recipe A: Once per week, 250 mg/L NaOCl 95% of the time.
[2]
Recipe B: Once every two weeks, to pH 2 (400 Gross Flux considered as instantaneous flux with standby skids offline and/or in backwash. Based on Normalized Flux at 25ºC.
mg/L HCl or 550 mg/L H 2SO 4) [3] 3
Air Scour is recommended during the regular backwash and CEB cycles at a flow rate between 10 to 15 Nm /hour/module, at a pressure of 0.35 to 2.5 barg (typical 1 barg) at the UF
Recipe C: Every 24 hours, 350 mg/L NaOCl module inlet.
Recipe D [4]: Once per week, to pH2, (550 mg/L [4]
Estimated dosage at 100% strength solution to achieve target pH. Actual required dosage will vary due to project-specidifc water chemistry, e.g. alkalinity, ionic strength and
HCl or 750 mg/L H 2SO 4) temperature.
Recipe E [4]: Every 12 hours, to pH 12 (650 mg/L [5]
These guidelines are based on the quality parameters indicated as design basis in the DuPont Ultrafiltration Product Manual, which includes reference values for Turbidity, TSS, TOC,
NaOH) particle size, Oil/Grease, COD, pH, temperature or Cl2. If the design basis is exceded or Iron, Manganese or Silica are present in the feed water, consult with your local DWS representative.
Recipe F: Every 12 hours, at 750 mg/L NaOCl [6]
In order to extend the time between full CIP’s, an approach based on short CIP’s can be done instead of the standard CEB. A heated chemical solution (typically NaOCl up to 2,000 ppm)
Recipe G [4]: Every 36 hours, to pH 2 (400 mg/L
is recirculated 1-3 times per week through the feed side of the membranes and then drained, and the system is rinsed. Total duration of the short CIP is around 30 minutes. Please consult
HCl or 550 mg/L H 2SO 4)
with your local DWS representative for further information.
