Geography. Thus, he is considered as

Location and Territory

WHERE IS THE
PHILIPPINE?
Philippines, island country of Southeast Asia in the western
Pacific Ocean. It is an archipelago consisting of some 7,100
islands and islets lying about 500 miles (800 km) off the
coast of Vietnam. Manila is the capital, but nearby Quezon
City is the country's most-populous city.

A. Mountain - It is the highest landform in the surface of the
earth. Ex. Mount Apo, Mount Makiling, and Mount Isarog
B. Mountain Range - It is a series of mountains. Ex. Sierra
Madre
C. Volcano - It is a mountain or hill with a vent or crater on
top. Ex. Mount Mayon and Mount Pinatubo
D. Hill – It is a type of landform lower and less steep compared
to a mountain. Ex. Himontagon Hills and Chocolate Hills
E. Valley - It is a low-lying area between two (2) mountains or
hills Ex. Cagayan Valley
F. Plateau - It is a flat topped highland with steep sides. Ex.
Bukidnon Plateau
G. Plains - It is an area of flat lands.

A. Sea - It is a large body of salt water. Ex. Philippine Sea and
Sulu Sea
B. River - It is a large natural stream of water, usually
freshwater.
Ex. Cagayan River, Rio Grande de Mindanao, and Pampanga River
C. Spring - It is a body of water that comes from the
underground. Ex. Tiwi Hot Spring
D. Lake - It is a body of water surrounded by land on all sides. Ex.
Taal Lake. Lake Buluan, and Lake Bito
E. Fall - It refers to a body of water that comes from a highland
such as mountain. Ex. Pagsanjan Falls, Hinulugang Taktak, and
Maria Christina Falls
F. Gulf - It is a body of water surrounded by land on three (3)
sides. Ex. Lingayen Gulf, Moro Gulf, Lagonoy Gulf
G. Bay - It is a body of water smaller compared to a gulf that is
also surrounded by land on three (3) sides.
Ex. Manila Bay, Subic Bay, and Iligan Bay
A. Weather and Climate
· The Philippines has a tropical climate because of its position near
the equator.
· There are two (2) distinct seasons; the dry season from March
to May and the rainy seasons June to December.

A. Natural Resources
· The Philippines is blessed with rich soil and plenty of natural resources.
· The country is abundant with planted crops such as rice, corn,
coconuts, sugar cane, bananas, pineapples, and variety of vegetables.

a. Unitary or Centralized – It is unitary since the national government controls both the
national and local affairs of the country

b. Republican Democracy – As stated by Article II, Section 1 of 1987 the Philippine state is a
republic and democratic state. It is a republic because the people elected their own
representative for the government. Moreover, it is also democratic because the government is
for the people; Filipinos can directly participate to the affairs of the state.

c. Presidential – The government of the Philippines comprised of three (3) co-equal branch: the
executive, legislative, and judiciary. The executive branch which was headed by a President is
not fused with the legislative
Filipino Traits and Values
· Filipinos are known around the world to be hospitable. They provide
good treatment to any visitor or stranger asking for assistance.
· Family is considered to be the basic unit of the society. Thus, everyone
gives high importance to every member of the family. This can be
observed through extended families, wherein, aside from the parents
and children, other relatives comprise the household. As such, Filipinos
developed close family ties and respect for elders.
· Aside from the positive traits mentioned, Filipinos have the tendency
to be indolent or lazy, a trait pointed out by Dr. Jose Rizal. However,
Rizal believes that this is due to the weather of the Philippines.
· Fatalism is one (1) of the negative traits that Filipinos still practice.
They tend to believe that everything is already predestined; thus,
nothing can be done to change it.
· Filipinos are regionalistic. They are inclined to give importance to the
region or any group s/he belongs to.
