Filipino Traits and Values
· Filipinos are known around the world to be hospitable. They provide
good treatment to any visitor or stranger asking for assistance.
· Family is considered to be the basic unit of the society. Thus, everyone
gives high importance to every member of the family. This can be
observed through extended families, wherein, aside from the parents
and children, other relatives comprise the household. As such, Filipinos
developed close family ties and respect for elders.
· Aside from the positive traits mentioned, Filipinos have the tendency
to be indolent or lazy, a trait pointed out by Dr. Jose Rizal. However,
Rizal believes that this is due to the weather of the Philippines.
· Fatalism is one (1) of the negative traits that Filipinos still practice.
They tend to believe that everything is already predestined; thus,
nothing can be done to change it.
· Filipinos are regionalistic. They are inclined to give importance to the
region or any group s/he belongs to.
