what...for asking for a reason, asking why What did you do that for?
why Asking for reason, asking what...for Why do you say that?
Thus, 'What do you want to know for?' is in essence a short form of 'For what reason do

completely.

What did you phone her for? (informal: Why did you phone her?)

Unfinished Actions
1. We use this tense when we want to talk about unfinished actions or states or habits that
started in the past and continue to the present. Usually we use it to say 'how long' and we
need 'since' or 'for'. We often use stative verbs.
I have known Karen since 1994.
We use 'for' with a period of time (2 hours, three years, six months).
I have known Julie for ten years.
I have been hungry for hours.
Finished Actions
2. Life experience. These are actions or events that happened sometime during a person's
life. We don't say when the experience happened, and the person needs to be alive now.
We often use the words 'ever' and 'never' here.
I have been to Tokyo.
3. With an unfinished time word (this month, this week, today). The period of time is still
continuing.
4. A finished action with a result in the present (focus on result). We often use the present
perfect to talk about something that happened in the recent past, but that is still true or
important now. Sometimes we can use the past simple here, especially in US English.
She has hurt her leg (so she can't play tennis today).
5. We can also use the present perfect to talk about something that happened recently, even
if there isn't a clear result in the present. This is common when we want to introduce news
and we often use the words 'just / yet / already / recently'. However, the past simple is
also correct in these cases, especially in US English.

The ostrich is the largest bird in the world. Even though it has wings, it can't
fly, but it makes up for the lack of flight by running very fast. The ostrich is found in
nature in Africa, but it is farmed all over the world for its meat.
The ostrich is a unique looking animal. It has long skinny legs, a big body with
small wings, a long neck, and a dangerous long beak. The ostrich usually weighs
between 200 and 300 pounds and can grow to 9 feet tall. Its large body is covered
with feathers. The males have black feathers with some white on the underside and
tail. The females are usually grey in color. An ostrich's eyes can be nearly 2 inches
in diameter giving them the largest eyes of any land animal.
The ostrich is famous for its speed on the ground. Its powerful legs enable it to
reach speeds of 40 miles per hour! Ostriches can also use their strong legs to kick a
predator. It can easily kick hard enough to kill a human or even a lion. However, in
most cases the ostrich will just use its speed to outrun any threat.
The wings of an ostrich aren't used for flying, but they aren't completely
useless either. They help a lot with balance when the ostrich is running at full speed
and needs to change directions. They are also used for courtship between a boy
and girl ostrich.
Ostriches live off of whatever they can find to eat. This includes plants,
insects, and small animals like lizards. They often live in herds with other ostriches.
A typical herd will have around ten birds, but some herds have been known to be as
large as 100 birds. These herds help them stay safe as well. Each herd has one big
nest where all the eggs are laid. This way the entire herd can help to protect the
eggs. Ostrich eggs are the biggest eggs of any animal at an average of 3 pounds.

The headmaster,
EARTHWORMS
An earthworm digs a hole by pushing into the loose soil with its pointed head which
then thickens, forcing the soil apart. Slowly but surely, the worm draws the rest of its body up
to dissappear into the hole. The earthworm can do this because its body has many narrow
rings joined together by a softer materials that enables it to change shape. Whenever the soil
is too hard to be puhed aside, the earthworm eats its way through.
By burrowing into the soil, the earthworm creates channels and pockets into which air
can enter. This allows the soil to become oxygenated so that plant roots can breathe. In this
way, earthworms act as gardeners and cultivators of the soil.

them in a circle, alternating colors.
3. For the middle. Choose a big button. Place the big button over the circle of petal buttons.
Make sure that you can see the petals poking out.
4. Layered middle. Find a button somewhat smaller than the big button that is in the middle.
Place it on top of the big button. Do the same for each additional layer.
5. Glue all the buttons together.
6. Flip over the big center button. Using hot glue, glue the petals to the center. Then flip it
back over. Use hot glue again, but this time to add the center layers. Now you have your
flower.
7. Make it a pin.
8. Using craft foam, cut out a circle about the size of the big center button. Glue it to the
back of the flower.
9. Then take the safety pin. Open it. On the side that doesn’t open, lather it with hot glue.
Place it on the middle of the craft foam circle. Then place a lot of glue on either side of the
pin, and on the top of the side that doesn’t close. Let it dry. If needed, add more glue until
the pin sticks.
