A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 8

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard
The learner illustrates triangle congruence.

B. Performance Standard
The learner is able to is able to communicate mathematical thinking with
coherence and clarity in formulating, investigating, analyzing, and solving real-
life problems involving congruent triangles using appropriate and accurate
representations.
.
C. Learning Competency
The learner illustrates triangle congruence. (M8GE-IIId-1)
D. Specific Learning Outcome
At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
1. Define congruent triangles.
2. Illustrates triangle congruence through naming its vertices, sides and
angles.
3.Apply triangle congruence to solve real-life problems.

II. CONTENT

A. Subject Matter:
Topic: Triangle Congruence

CONGRUENCE  means having the same shape and size, and it is denoted by .
The top of the symbol, , is the sign for similarity and indicates the same shape.
The bottom part, =, is the sign of equality and indicates the same size.

3 BASIC PARTS OF TRIANGLE

1. Vertices - these are the 3 corners of the triangle determined by 3 noncollinear points.
2. Sides - these are the three segments whose endpoints are the three vertices of the
triangle.
3. Angles - these are the union of rays determined by a pair of noncollinear sides of the
triangle.

TV

IV. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Pre Activity

 Prayer
Before we start our lessons for today, I
would like to ask [Student’s name] to One student will lead the prayer.
lead us a prayer.

After the student has led the prayer,

the teacher can then conclude by
saying:

Thank you, [Student's name], for

leading us in prayer today. Let's carry
the spirit of this moment with us as we
start our lessons.

 Greetings
Good morning / afternoon class! Good morning / afternoon Sir!
You may be seated.
How are you today? We’re fine Sir.

 Checking Attendance
And now, I am going to check your
attendance, once your name is called (Student say “Present”)
kindly say “Present”.

B. Motivation
Now, let’s have a short activity.

I have here pictures to be flashed on the

screen. (Show pictures on the TV screen)

What have you seen

in the picture being flashed? Bridges, Sir!
Building/ buildings!
What shapes do you think they were used?
I think they used triangles extensively in the
construction of buildings and bridges.
Based on your answer, you have seen triangle
shapes; are they the same shape or not?
Yes, they are all same shapes.

Class, what do you think will be our topic

today based on the activity that I presented to
you a while ago?
(Answers will vary.)

C. Presentation
So, our topic for today it’s all about Triangle
Congruence.

So, everybody please read our objective for

today. The learners will read the learning objective:

At the end of the lesson, the students will be

able to:
1. Define congruent triangles.
2. Illustrates triangle congruence
through naming its vertices, sides, and
angles.
3.Apply triangle congruence to solve
real-life problems.

Thank you, class. This objective will serve as

D. Activity Proper
For better understanding, let us have first an
activity.

The following are the instructions before the

group activity: (Students listen attentively to the instructions)
1. The class will be divided into three groups.
2 The group will do the activity within 5
minutes.

Activity
Direction: The two Triangles below are KEY ANSWERS:
congruent. Complete each statement.
a) ΔRNP  ? a. ΔRNP  ΔSEP
b) ∠N  ?
b. ∠N  ∠E
c) ∠S  ?
d) NP  ? c. ∠S  ∠R

d. NP ≅ EP

*Analysis Question:

What is the name of the two triangles being The name of the two triangles being
illustrated in the picture? illustrated is ΔRNP and ΔSEP.

What are the parts of triangle? The parts of a triangle are vertices, angles and
sides.

What is the meaning of Vertices? Vertices these are the 3 corners of the triangle.

What are the vertices of the ΔRNP and ΔSEP? The vertices of the 2 triangles are R, N, P, E,
and S.

What is the meaning of angles? Angles these are the union of rays.

What are the angles of the ΔRNP and ΔSEP? The angles of the 2 triangles are ∠R, ∠N, ∠P,
∠S, and ∠E.

What is the meaning of sides? Sides these are the 3 segments whose
endpoints are the 3 vertices of the triangle.

What is the symbol for congruence? The symbol for congruence ≅.

What is the meaning of congruence? Congruent means to have the same shape and
size.

E. Abstraction

How do you determine whether the triangles We determine the triangles are congruent
are congruent? when they are the same shape and size.

Can congruent triangles be of different sizes? No, congruent triangles cannot be different
sizes; they have identical shapes and sizes.

How do you know if the triangles are not If corresponding sides and angles of two
congruent? triangles are not equal, the triangles are not
congruent.

Does a triangle have all congruent angles? No, a triangle does not have all congruent
angles. The sum of angles in a triangle is
always 180 degrees, but the individual angles
may vary.

G. Application (based on real-life situation)

How can you relate triangle congruence in Triangle congruence is important in real-
real-life scenario? world situations like building, where
matching triangles guarantee stability, and
manufacturing, where congruent parts
improve accuracy and quality.

Who can give me an example of triangle

congruent based on real-life situation? (Answers will vary)
