1. Executive summary
This summary provides ideas about the role of travel agent in the tourism sector of Europe. It
highlights challenges, opportunities and give recommendations about a job of travel agent. The
role of travel agent depends upon the landscape and cultures of the place. Overviewing the
market in United Kingdom, it consists of various diverse culture. It can be a good destination for
all the international tourists. United Kingdom has rich history and beautiful landscapes. Because
of this many travelers globally like to visit there annually. Tourism sector in United Kingdom
helps a lot in increasing the economy. Travel agents provide a great travel experience to
domestic and international tourists in this region.

As we know, the tourism industry in this region is constantly evolving. This is because the use of
different technologies and different uncertain events. Nowadays, booking tickets online and
using google map is popular while travelling. It has affected the working life of travel agents. So,
the role of travel agents has also changed. They have transformed from travelling facilitators to
advisors. They offer personal recommendations to tourists who want to visit certain place. They
provide local insights and all the information beforehand. Some of the travel agencies have their
own websites. Through these website travelers wanting to visit certain place can book their own
tickets through websites and contact agents if needed. Tourists can check the new offers in hotels
and other fun activities through the websites. This saves the time and money of tourists as well.

As a travel agent myself I have been working in this sector since many years. I along with my
friends started a travel agency, Baba Travels in United Kingdom. It provides travel facilities to
tourists visiting any part of United Kingdom. We look out for domestic as well as international
tourists.

Leadership skills and management skills are the basic things an owner of any business should
know. This report shows the importance of teamwork and how it motivates any staff to work
hard. Being in this industry for many years I have faced various challenges. The most important
thing I have learned in this journey is to take challenges as opportunities. Due to global
pandemic, I had to go through huge loss. Likewise, different other travel agencies are there in the
market so there is very high competition. The solution to this problem is to provide very good
services at low cost. We have made different travel packages which are cheaper than the other
travel agencies.

In conclusion, we are well known with ongoing trends and the demands of travelers in United
Kingdom which is necessary to run a travel agency and to call myself as a travel agent in such a
beautiful country. This report shows the significance of travel agent in providing good travel
experience to the tourists. It also highlights role of travel agent in enhancing tourism sector.

2. Introduction
As United Kingdom is rich in cultures and history millions of tourists visit there yearly. Tourism
sector is a multifaced business industry in United Kingdom. There can be different other sub
sectors in tourism sectors. Those sub-sectors can be hospitality sector, hotels businesses, travel
agencies and many more. Tourism sector is a very flourished sector to help in economy of the
country. One of the popular sub-sectors in tourism sector can be travel agencies. Travel agencies
have been helping to enhance the quality of travelling since very long time in Europe. With the
evolution in tourism sector, travel agencies and their working process have also changed.
Different travel agencies are established lately. I am the owner of one of the travel agencies,
Baba Travels. Being the owner of travel agency, I have learned many new things which can be
further used in my personal life. This introduction introduces tourism and travel sector in United
Kingdom.

3. My Travel Agency
Baba Travels from the time of establishment gradually became one of the popular travel agencies
in the region. We handled more than 1000 travelers every year. It was such a pleasure to help
tourists visit their dream destination within United Kingdom. We offered hotel bookings, tour
guides as well as restaurant recommendations through phone calls previously. Now, we are
offering such things through our website. We also have added different other functions such as
name of different famous locations, what is the history behind different monuments in the place
tourists are visiting as well as the maps of the city. Tourists can easily download the map and
roam around cities freely without the help of tour guide. It helps them to save their money.
4. My Journey
Being the owner of a travel agency in United Kingdom my journey has been like a rollercoaster
ride. At the time of establish, I was very nervous as well as excited for the new ride in my life. I
had zero idea about what to do and how to do. But my friends helped me a lot during this
process. I didn’t have any office at first. I used to print advertisement with phone number. I
didn’t believe at myself first but once I travelled with 10 people to a city and gave them the
experience of lifetime, I felt confident. Gradually I opened my own office. I started getting more
clients. With no time our Baba Travels came in hype and was a successful business. In my long
journey as the owner of Baba Travels, I have understood that neither anything is easy nor
anything is impossible. I feel very happy to support the tourism industry in the country. I am glad
to be a part of this multifaced industry.

5. Analysis of Skills
5.1. Leadership skill
Being an owner of anything bring anyone 2 opportunities i.e. to be a boss or to be a leader.
Bossing around the employees does not make any business successful. To be a leader and
support teamwork helps to make any business successful. Owning a travel agency in United
Kingdom requires great leadership skill to operate the business. Leadership skills help to foster
the growth of agency. Leadership skills play essential role in shaping the future of travel agency.
Some of the leadership skills essential in travelling sector in United Kingdom are;

5.2. Visionary Skill:


A successful travel agency owner should have a clear vision for the future. They must know
about industry trends. They should understand which trend to follow and which to not. They
must set strategic plans and goals. They must know about the market changes /shifts and adapt
accordingly. At our agency, we have assigned a special strategic planning committee.

5.3. Customer-Centric Approach:


A good travel agent must focus on client’s interests. They must know how to solve the problems
of clients. Similarly, they must stick to their commitments. We have provided a customer care
phone number to our clients through which they can share their problems. We also have included
feedback section in our website.
5.4. Effective Communication Skills:
A good owner must be very careful about their communication skills. They must communicate
sweetly with their clients as well as their staffs. They should convey information properly. They
must negotiate with their partners properly. They are supposed to have seamless coordination
with their team. As every details matter, communication is the key to make your business rum
smoothly. Our agency conducted different workshops to learn communication skills and teach
our staffs too.

5.5. Team Building and Motivation:


A successful travel agency must have a motivated team. It must have a group of people who are
willing to work as a team. Likewise, a leader must know about team building. He must know
how to bring people from diversified environment together to work. In this way, every member
can learn from their other team members. A leader should provide everyone opportunities for
personal as well as professional development. We have created a positive workplace with
diversified members. And we motivate every staffs to work hard by giving bonuses during
festival. From this a high performing team can be produced.

5.6. Financial Decision Making:


Financial management is the most important factor in making business successful. A good leader
must understand all the financial terms. He must know how to manage budgets. He should
analyze the budget reports on time and make decisions accordingly. The decision that contributes
to the profitability of agency is considered to be good decision financially. We have navigated
the economic uncertainties and optimized proper resource allocation.

5.7. Management Skills


A successful agency own must have good management skills. Management skills help to make
the working of the company more effective. Management skills include an exceptional
organizational skill which helps the company to be operated smoothly. Organizational skill is the
backbone of well- functioning travel agency. Organizational skill in travelling field includes
detailed list of clients as well as managing the complex schedules of the travelers while
travelling. It also includes the accurate record keeping and preferences of the clients.
Organizational skills help in enhancing the overall efficiency of the agency. So, a good owner
must have exceptional organizing skills. Time management skill is another important
management skill in travel industry. Being an owner of travel agency and not knowing how to
work within deadlines is not just bad for the agency but also for the owner themselves. A
manager’s skill to balance the urgency is one of the important factors in any working field. If a
owner has effective time management skill he can also face the challenges and come to solution
in time. At our agency, we have staffs with very good management skills. They are well-know
about the importance of organizational skill and time management.

6. Challenges and Recommendations


There are different hurdles faced by travel agencies in United Kingdom. Some of the challenges
faced are; technological disruptions, global uncertainties ,etc. According to a survey by

nowadays. According to a report by IBISWorld, increased competition from OTAs has put
pressure on traditional travel agencies, necessitating innovation and strategic differentiation to
stay relevant. As the world has shifted to digital marketing era, it has brought a great challenge in

Today, the operational cost of running a travel agency is very high. As they have to invest in
technological investment, good work place and pay the staffs the operational cost is high. A

way, there are different challenges in the tourism sector in United Kingdom. Our agency has also
faced such challenges. The most important thing we have learned in this journey is to take

Likewise, knowing the trends and adapting with time also plays important role in making
business successful.
7. Conclusion
In conclusion, the tourism sector in United Kingdom is multifaced business industry which has
various sub-sectors. The travel agency has contributed great to the enhancement of tourism
sector in Europe. Similarly, the tourism sector has contributed great to the economy of the
country. Yearly millions of tourist visit United Kingdom and spent millions of dollars which will
eventually help in making the economic condition of the country strong. So, tourism sector is

feel great to be a part of the ongoing evolution. Baba Travels was started for a reason and in my
opinion, it is standing still till date going through lots of challenges.
