TOPIC: MAGNETIC FORCES AND MAGNETIC MATERIALS
FACULTY: RAVITEJA BALEKAI

1. Derive Lorentz force equation.

2. A point charge of Q= 2.8C has velocity v= 5ax + 2ay-3azm/s. Find the magnitude of the force exerted on
the charge if, a) E= -18ax + 5ay-10azv/m b) B= -4ax+4ay +3azT c) both are present simultaneously.
3. A point charge of Q= 5x10-18C is moving through a uniform magnetic field of B=-0.4ax+0.2ay -0.1azT.
And with a velocity v= 2ax-3ay+6azm/s at t=0. a) What is the electric field present at t=0 if the net force
on the electron is zero. b) If the electric field intensity is in the a x direction entirely, find Ex if
|Ftotal|= 2pN.
4. Derive expression for magnetic force on differential current element.
5. A current element I1 ΔL1=10-5az A.m is located at (1,0,0) while a second element
I2 ΔL2=10-5 (0.6ax-2ay+3az) A.m is located at (-1,0,0) both in free space. a) Find force exerted on I2 ΔL2
by I1 ΔL1 b) Find force exerted on I1 ΔL1 by I2 ΔL2
6. Two identical circular loops of conductors of 1m loop diameter, each carrying 100A current placed
closed to each other. Find the approximate force between two loops.
7. Find the force per meter length between two long parallel wires separated by 10cm in air and carrying a
current of 10A in the same direction.
8. Find the magnetic field intensity within a magnetic material where
a) M=150A/m and μ=1.5x10-5 H/m b) B= 300μT and χm=15
c) There are 8.2 x10 atoms/m , each atom has a dipole moment of 5x10-27 Am2 and μr=30.
