Lazarus Interactional Model

The transactional model of stress and coping created by Richard Lazarus and Susan Folkman describes stress as a two-way process involving the interaction between a person and their environment. The model involves three key steps: 1) primary appraisal where a stressor is evaluated, 2) secondary appraisal where a person assesses their coping abilities, and 3) use of coping strategies either problem-based or emotion-based. The model emphasizes that stress is determined by subjective perception and coping involves constant cognitive appraisal and reappraisal of person-environment relationships.

Introduction
Transaction or interaction occurs between individuals or even
between an individual and an external factor. According to Lazarus
and Folkman, our stress levels are frequently more influenced by
how we perceive or respond to events than by the events
themselves. Using coping mechanisms and objective assessment,
they created a framework to assist people in managing stressful
situations. This model of stress and coping was dubbed the
Transactional Model.
