1. What is a certificate?

Used to provide identity and used for creating secure communication.

Virtual local area network is any broadcast domain that is partitioned and isolated in a computer

Wireless Local Area Network is wireless network that allows devices to associate and
communicate wirelessly.

This is caused my display driver issue or incompatible app and need to verify if Task Manager
flickers. (re-install display driver from device manager)

6. What is Active Directory?


It’s database and set of services that connect users with the network resources that contains
what users and computers there are with account details and their permission levels.

8. What are lingering objects?


Deleted AD object that remains on restored domain controller in local copy of Active Directory.

9. How can we move lingering objects?


Windows Server 2003 and 2008 will remove. REPADMIN.EXE

10. How do you backup AD?


Windows Server 2003: NTBACKUP tool

input “y” and press enter to start backup process

Online defragmentation of AD which happens every 12 hours.

contains attributes behind every user account on the network. (tree like hierarchy with multiple
levels to narrow down search results)

Logical group of network objects (computers, users, devices) that share the same AD.

Windows based computer system that authenticates users, stores user account information and
enforces security policy for a Windows domain.

*don’t restore DC that was last backed up 8 months ago (leads to inconsistent data, caused by
lingering objects)

15. What is group policy?

Tool that can be used to implement specific configurations for users and computers.

16. What are GPOs?

Group policy object: collection of settings that control working environment of user and computer
accounts. (local group policy: stored on individual computers and nonlocal group policy: stored
on domain controller available in AD)

1. Open Server Manger > DHCP role
2. Right click server name, choose Restore
3. Choose location of backup and OK
4. Restart DHCP Service
