Tutorial Sheet-3 (Unit-1)

Q 1 Find the average and effective values of voltage of sinusoidal waveform shown in Fig. 11.33.

Q2. Solve the given circuit to find the current through 10 Ω using Thevenin’s
Theorem

Ans : Step 1:To Find RTH Short Circuit 9V or make it 0V, both means the same

Step 2: Since no current flows through 2ohm resistance so 2 ohm will be

removed while calculation VTH
Step 3: Put the values in this circuit to obtain
equivalent circuit

Step 4: Find IL
Q3: If RL=15 ohm is connected between a and b points of the circuit, then
find current through 15 ohm. Follow the steps of Que 2
Put the value in equivalent circuit.
RL=20ohm, VTH=16V RTH=4 ohm = IL= 16/(20+4)A= 16/24=2/3A Ans

Q4: Find current through RL using Norton’s theorem

Step 1: Remove load resistence and short circuit A and B terminals, to find Short Circuit current

Step 2: Find RN /RTH

Step 3: Norton’s Equivalent circuit is

Step 4: use current divider law to find, IL= 15*1/20= 15/20A

Q5.

Ans :

Q 6 A sine wave voltage has a maximum value of 20 V and a frequency of 50 Hz. Determine the instantaneous
voltage present (a) 2.5 ms and (b) 15 ms from the start of the cycle.
Solution
We can find the voltage at any instant of time using:
v = V sin (20 t)
max

where Vmax = 20 V and f = 50 Hz. In (a), t = 2.5 ms, hence:

v = 20 sin (20 × 50 × 0.0025) = 20 sin (0.785) = 20 × 0.707 = 14.14 V
In (b), t = 15 ms, hence:
v = 20 sin (20 × 50 × 0.0015) = 20 sin (4.71) = 20 × -1 = -20 V.

Que 7:

a)4.34ohm
b)3.67ohm
c)3.43ohm
d) 2.32 ohm

Que 8 Find VTH in Que 7

a)5.54V
b)3.33V
c)6.67V
d) 3.67V

Que 9

a)10ohm
b)11ohm
c)12ohm
d)13ohm

Que 10 find Norton current in Que 9

a)0.72A b)0.32A
c)0.83A d)0.67A
