DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 5

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Describe transparent, translucent, and opaque materials.
B. Categorize which materials block, absorb, or transmit light; and
C. Appreciate the importance of materials that block, absorb or transmit
light.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Relate the ability of the material to block, absorb or transmit light
to its use
Learning Resources: CG CODE S5FE-iiie-5

Instructional Materials: power point, laptop, visual aids
Valuing: Appreciating the importance of materials that block, absorb or
transmit light.
III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
 Prayer
Good day class! Kindly stand “In the name of the father”
up let us pray.
Lord, bless each and every student
here, as well as our teacher, as we

3. Raise your right hand when
asking or answering a question
4. Work quietly
5. Observe cleanliness

1. Review
I have here some pictures to show
you and I want you to identify if it is
a conductor or an insulator.

1.

1. Conductor

2. 2. Conductor

3. 3. Insulator

4. 4. Conductor

5. 5. Insulator

2. Motivation
I want you to identify the following
pictures, if it is black or colored
objects.
Are you ready class? Yes sir we are ready!

Its colored object sir

Black object sir

Colored object sir!

Colored object!

Black object!

B.DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. PRESENTATION

I’ll be presenting group of pictures,

and I want you to look at and tell me
what picture is

1.
1. Sunlight

2.

2. Flashlight

3. Lampshade
3.

4.
4. Lightbulb

2. DISCUSSION
Questions

Do you think this material are very Yes sir!

important to us?

Yes there are important to us.

Class can you imagine that It’s very dark

surroundings without light at all?
Light is very important to us!

3. ANALYSIS AND ABSTRACTION

So today our lesson has something
to do with lights.

Visible light or simply light is the

light that is visible to the human
eye.
Anything is visible to our eye is
called visible light.

The primary source of light is the

SUN.

Visible light allow us to see the

color that is not absorb by the
objects.

OPTICS- is the study of the

reflection, refraction,
absorption, and transmission
of light.

Reflection – refers to the

bouncing back of the light
when it hits an object. Some
objects with flat and smooth
surfaces like mirrors, reflect
light in a straight and
predictable way.
Reflection of light
Refraction- refers to the
bending of light as it passes
through different materials.

Example,

the straw in a glass of water

appears bent because of the
different parts of the material
that interact with light.

Absorption- refers to a
materials taking in of light and
not reflecting it back.

When light strikes a black surface, it

is absorbed by the surface and
nothing is reflected.

Transmission- refers to the

passing of light through some
materials
When light passes through a glass
window it is transmitted to the other
side, allowing the light to pass
through the window.

Different materials have different

ways of transmitting light
1. Transparent objects- objects that
let all light to pass through them are
called transparent objects.

Example:
window panes spectacles

aquarium bulb

transparent object that you can see

the details of objects on the other
side of transparent objects.

2. Translucent object- allow some

light to pass through them, and
some lights is absorbed or reflected
back
Example:
Tinted window sun glasses

translucent objects can be seen

through but not completely.
3. Opaque objects- objects that do
not let any light to pass through
they are called opaque objects.
Example:

Basketball teddy bear

Battery pillow

Some of the light is reflected back

and some is absorbed.

4.GROUP ACTIVITY

I will group you into three. Each

group will choose secretary and
representative who will report
your work in front. Once you
finish, clap your hands three
times and say your group number.
I will give you 5 minutes to finish
your task.

Each work will be rated according

to the Rubrics.

*Accuracy – Correctness of answer

and how the pupils free from mistake
or error. (5%)
*Collaboration- action of pupils
working in a team and contribution of
ideas and knowledge to finished the
task. (5%)
*Timeless -finished the task ahead or
on time. (5%)
*Cleanliness-no
erasure/neat/presentable and
maintain cleanliness in surroundings
(5%)  Cooperation/Teamwork
 Share your Ideas/Participate
But before you start, what should

different ways of transmitting
light?

C. APPLICATION Yes of course we need lights that

Is it important to us that all can be used on a daily basis
materials mentioned are the most because that will serve as light so
important things that we need to use that we can see you in the
in our every day life? How do you say darkness of the environment.
