A.

Examine a healthcare organization that has significance to you, using the American Hospital
Directory (AHD) website found in the Web Links section, and complete the following:

1. Identify the healthcare organization you selected from the AHD by name and location.

White River Medical Center

Batesville Arkansas

2. Explain why you chose the healthcare organization in part A1 and any significance the organization
has to you, including specific examples.

I chose White River Medical Center because I not only live close by, I also have worked there in the
surgery department for 19 years as a Surgical Technologist and Registered Nurse.

3. Describe the healthcare organization from A1 and the "type of facility" it is, according to AHD
website, and the types of services this kind of facility typically provides.

White River Medical Center is a Voluntary Nonprofit, Level III Trauma Center, short term Acute care
facility with 201 Staffed Beds

They Offer Emergency Room services, Intensive care, Neurosciences, oncology, Physical Therapy, Cardiac
services that include Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Carotid Stenting, and Coronary and Vascular
Interventions. Orthopedic Services include Joint Replacement as well as sports medicine and
Arthroscopy. Surgery Department offers Inpatient as well as outpatient surgery including Robotic
surgeries

They are a teaching facility that number of interns and residents = 34 FTEs [CITATION Ide22 \l 1033 ]

Explain what the "type of control", according to AHD website, means for this healthcare organization
identified in part A1 and how it informs the services typically provided at this healthcare organization.

White River Medical Center type of control is Voluntary Nonprofit which is a hospital that is governed by
a local, self-appointed board of managers and is supported in part by voluntary contributions. [ CITATION

4 Discuss the facility’s Overall Star Rating from the Care Compare website and identify how the Star
Rating is measured. If the facility does not have an Overall Star Rating explain why.

White River Medical Center's overall star rating of three stars is based on how well a hospital does in
various quality areas. The quality information on crucial subjects like readmissions and deaths from
heart attacks or pneumonia is summarized by the hospitals' overall star rating. A single star rating for
each hospital is the overall rating, which ranges from one to five stars. It combines a variety of measures
from five different quality areas. The five groups of measures include:

Mortality, Safety of care, Readmission Rate, Timely and effective care, and Patient experience

Identify one credible additional source of quality data on healthcare organizations.

Quality information about healthcare providers can be trusted from the Joint Commission. In the United
States, healthcare programs and organizations are accredited and certified by The Joint Commission, an
independent, not-for-profit organization. To guarantee that healthcare facilities are upholding healthcare
standards, the Joint Commission establishes quality and safety standards for accreditation.

5. Discuss two organizational ethics that are reflected in the type of facility and the type of control
listed for this organization, including specific examples.

White River Medical Center is known for being trustworthy when interacting with patients, employees,
and members of the community. Two of the organizational values that are represented in the list of the
kinds of facilities and controls that it uses are honesty and integrity. When it comes to the medical care
they provide, honesty is very important. In the medical field, honesty goes both ways because if a patient
isn't honest about their medications and eating habits, it can lead the doctor to drastically alter the
patient's diet and medications when there was no need to. The same is true of medical professionals;
Being open and honest with your patients can improve their outcomes because they are able to
participate in their care and are aware of their medical options. [ CITATION Car \l 1033 ]

.
6. Discuss the nurse's role in fiscal responsibility for this type of organization related to value-based
care, including specific examples.

The nurse is responsible for assisting the organization in reducing expenses while still providing high-
quality care. For example, the nurse can assist in educating patients on the proper way to administer
their medication. And, the nurse can assist in reviewing the discharge procedure to ensure that patients
are discharged promptly avoiding longer hospital stays.

7. Describe one healthcare organizational change that could improve the delivery of value-based
healthcare for the healthcare organization from part A1.

Increasing transparency between the healthcare organization and the patients is a way to improve the
delivery of value-based healthcare. By giving patients more details about their treatment options and
the costs associated with each, this can be accomplished. Patients will be able to make better decisions
about their care.

B. Compare the financial structure of the healthcare organization you discussed in part A with another
organization listed on the AHD website that is within the same or an adjacent state, including specific
examples from each healthcare organization.

White River Medical Center is a non-profit organization, meaning they do not make profit for partners or
shareholders. They profit from not only Patient Revenue, but also non-patient revenue as well. According
to the American Hospital Directory in 2022 7.2% of the hospital’s income was from non-profit revenues.
[CITATION Ide22 \l 1033 ] Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital however is a for-profit company,
which means that they are focused on making a profit for the Partners in the company. According to the
American Hospital Directory in 2022 non-profit income for the hospital was -0.2%. [ CITATION Ame22 \l
1033 ]

1. Discuss which healthcare organization from part B is more aligned with value-based healthcare,
including one scholarly evidence source published within the last five years to support the discussion.

Because it is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing high-quality care to its patients, White
River Medical Center is more in line with value-based healthcare. Encompass Health Rehabilitation
Hospital is a business that exists solely for the purpose of making money for its shareholders.

Nonprofit hospitals typically charge less money for services than for-profit hospitals do. however lower-
priced care does not come at the expense of lower quality. According to statistics, for-profit hospitals
provide poor care compared to non-profit hospitals when it comes to treating common health care
illnesses and, as a result, have higher death rates, despite charging more. This is due to the fact that the
quality of care is influenced by the policies of the institution as a whole and employees' abilities. (Are
Non-Profit or For-Profit Hospitals Better? 2022)

2. Discuss which healthcare organization from part B is more supportive of equitable patient-centered
care, including one scholarly evidence source published within the last five years to support the
discussion.

Because it is a non-profit organization that is focused on providing high-quality care to its patients, White
River Medical Center is more supportive of equitable patient care. Encompass Health Rehabilitation
Hospital is a for-profit entity whose primary objective is to generate revenue for its partners.

According to studies, the availability of health care for "unprofitable" patients decreases as for-profit
businesses expand. On-profits are left with more poor patients to serve but fewer paying patients to
subsidize their care because for-profits refuse to serve nonpaying patients while simultaneously taking a
large share of paying patients. For profits can generate high revenues by serving only profitable patients
and providing only profitable services, allowing them to charge lower prices for their services.[ CITATION
Cla22 \l 1033 ]

3. Discuss one financial and one quality data source that could inform organizational transformation
in any healthcare organization.

The CMS Hospital Compare website is one source of financial information that could help with
organizational transformation. Rates of patient care measures are included on this website's information
on hospital quality and performance. A healthcare organization can use this information to help find
ways to improve how it delivers care. [ CITATION Med \l 1033 ]

One quality information source that could illuminate change is The Joint Commission. In the United
States, healthcare programs and organizations are accredited and certified by The Joint Commission, an
independent organization. To guarantee that healthcare facilities are upholding healthcare standards,
the Joint Commission establishes quality and safety standards for accreditation. A healthcare
organization can use this information to help find ways to improve how it delivers care. [ CITATION Hel \l
