Physics Lab-Exp 9 - RC

The document describes an experiment involving an RC circuit. The objectives are to determine the time constants for charging and discharging a capacitor in an RC circuit. The apparatus includes the circuit components. The procedure involves connecting the circuits, taking voltage and current measurements over time, and analyzing the data by plotting graphs of current/charge versus time and calculating time constants from the slopes. Questions at the end assess understanding of potential differences, current, and voltages in RC circuits during charging and discharging.

2- The figures below show an RC circuit at three different times: (1) just before the switch
closes, (2) at the instant the switch is closed and (3) after the switch has been closed for a long
time.
Assume that the capacitor was initially uncharged, use “ minimum” , “maximum” or “zero” to
answer the following:

a) before the switch is closed

Vc=__________________
VR=__________________
I = ___________________

b) at the instant the switch is closed

Vc=__________________
VR=__________________
I = ___________________

c) long time after the switch is closed

Vc=__________________
VR=__________________
I = ___________________
