Core Subject Title: Disciplines and Ideas in the Social Sciences No. of Hours/Semester: 80 hours/semester
Prerequisites (If Needed)
Core Subject Description:
The course introduces students to basic concepts, subjects, and methods of inquiry in the disciplines that comprise the Social Sciences. It then discusses influential thinkers and ideas in these
disciplines, and relates these ideas to the Philippine setting and current global trends.
Culminating Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to interpret personal and social experiences through the study of the different approaches of the Social Sciences and identify
the strengths and weaknesses of the approaches and identifying the different disciplines of the Social Sciences.

Performance Task:
CEBU ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL COLLEGES

GOAL: You are commissioned by your Brgy. Captain to provide an analysis and a proposal of the istambay phenomenon in your barangay.
ROLE: You are the SK Chairman of your barangay.

AUDIENCE: You will submit your analysis and proposal to the Brgy. Captain and to the panel of experts consisting of the Brgy. Counselors who will evaluate your output based on the
feasibility of the proposal and the accuracy of the issue’s analysis.

SITUATION: The istambay phenomenon in the country has been increasing due to lack of employment opportunities. This has caused income insecurity among families, which translates to other forms of
insecurities relating to food, health, and housing tenure. To have a well-rounded approach in this issue, use one of the theories discussed in this unit in making your analysis and propose a solution based on
