Performance Task Math 8
Third Quarter
Performance Standard: The learner is able to solve real-life problems involving factors of
polynomials, rational algebraic expression, linear equations and
inequalities in two variables, systems of linear equations and
inequalities in two variables and linear functions, and solve these
problems accurately using a variety of strategies
GOAL: To produce a new logo of the chosen firm provided by the equation being used to
create the drawing.
SITUATION: You are a graphic designer and have been assigned the task of creating new logo
that represents your family values
The board of directors, who do not remember much about algebra, will be reviewing a
technical report that you present to them. In order to produce the new logo, the firm needs to
know the equations being used to create the drawing. You are being asked to provide an
accurate drawing of the items on a two-dimensional graph and write a short “Tech Report”
explaining how the equations were determined to make the logo. You must include a
drawing of the logo to be given to the board of directors, the equations of the drawing
(including all work), and the tech report. You must meet the following requirements:
1. At least 5 lines that make up the logo shape. You must label the 5 lines that
you want graded and write the equations in slope-intercept and standard
form. Your logo should have a minimum 6 slanted, 1 horizontal and 1 vertical
line.
2. Formal colored drawing of the item on graphing paper with a Cartesian plane
and label each equation (students will label the drawing with letters and then
list the equations on the equation table).
3. Statement of the methods used to determine the findings. (tech report)
