Wildlife Sanctuaries In Assam

Assam is a magnificent and utmost beautiful state gracefully lying in


the northeastern part of India. It has eventually earned its name and is
now recognised for being one of the finest holiday destinations in India
owing to its fascinating wildlife, truly eye luring archaeological sites and
very amazing tea plantations. The pan includes 5 national parks and 17
Wildlife sanctuaries as well as 3 proposed Wildlife Sanctuaries , 4 Tiger
Reserves, 5 Elephant Reserves, 2 Biosphere Reserves and 2 World
Natural Heritage sites and they play very important role in in-situ
conservation of biodiversity.

Some Wildlife Sanctuaries In Assam


1. Kaziranga National Park
2. Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary
3. Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary
4. Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary
5. Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuatery

1) Kaziranga National Park:

Kaziranga National Park is


certainly a very famous wildlife
sanctuary which is very well
situated on the banks of the
mighty Brahmaputra River. It is
decently huge in terms of area
which is about 800 sq. km and
consists of vast green
vegetations. Amidst the dry
deciduous forests, rocky landscapes and certainly thick thickets, one can witness
watching a wide variety of birds and several different wildlife animals going
around in their natural habitat. To speak of the major attraction here in the
kaziranga National Park then it has to be the rhinos. Visitors can explore the
entire area in a jeep and can see the animals from decently near which may be
about just a few cms away. Kaziranga National Park is indeed one of the finest
wildlife sanctuaries which are recommended to tourists if they are in Assam and
the fun doubles when they are visiting with their near and dear ones.

2) Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary:


This is one of the most popular
wildlife sanctuaries well located
in the Kokrajhar and Dhubri
districts of Assam. It is certainly
a great place to visit with
friends and family and this
wildlife den is well stretched
over an area of 45,668 km2
over the Chakrashila Hills.
Though the said sanctuary was
declared as a reserve forest
back in 1966 however it was
only around 1994 when it was able to earn the recognition by the state
government and became a wildlife sanctuary thereafter. Besides having the Beel
and Diplai Beel lakes in its vicinity, the said sanctuary is also well-known home
to Golden Langur, Indian Flying Fox, Indian Pipistrelle, Chinese Pangolin, Rhesus
Macaque, Asiatic Jackal, Bengal Fox, Hornbills and several others. To make a
note of, this amazing sanctuary is said to be the second protected home to the
very beautiful yet endangered Golden Langur who can be witnessed here in their
natural habitat.

3) Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary:


Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary is
said to be home to the very
rare and highly endangered
species of wildlife and to add
few names, we can start with
Pygmy Hog, Clouded Leopard
and Golden Langur. Visitors will
be amazed and happy to see
several wildlife species in
Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary’s
vicinity such as Hoolock Gibbon, White Winged Wood duck, Hispid Hare, Swamp
Deer and several others. Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary is truly blessed to be so well
situated on such a perfect location and the views and scenes witnessed between
the majestic Himalayas on one side and the very beautiful country Bhutan on the
other is truly beyond words to express.

4) Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary:


Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is
located in the heart of Assam and it is
a decently vast wildlife sanctuary
covering a moderate expanse of
about 44.06 sq. km approx. It lies on
the northern bank of the turbulent
Brahmaputra River along the very
beautiful Sonitpur District. Visitors
can watch and witness a wide variety
of wildlife species from decency close
if fortunate and the Bura-Chapori
Wildlife Sanctuary is well crowded
most of the time of the year however it is a very beloved sanctuary to locals as
well as tourists.

5) Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary:


Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary is a
very beautiful sanctuary located in
Assam and is said to be very well
surrounded in lush greenery
sprinkled with sparkling water
bodies. Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary
is recognised as one of the finest
sanctuaries in the region and it is
home to over 120 species of birds.
Locals, as well as tourists who had
visited here, has nothing but words
of praises for the so-called beautiful
Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary. Some
of the bird species such as kingfishers, fishing eagles, adjutant stork and a
plethora of ducks can very well be spotted here. It is quite crowded throughout
the year and you are more than welcome to visit the beautiful Deepor Beel Bird
Sanctuary with your near and dear ones and witness an experience to watch the
various species of birds from real close in their natural habitat.
