CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

This chapter introduces the background of the Study, Statement of the

Problem and Hypothesis, Significance of the Study, Scope and Limitation, and

Definition of Terms.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The art of effective studying is a cornerstone of academic success, with study

techniques playing a pivotal role in shaping learning outcomes. From time-tested

methods to innovative approaches, study techniques empower individuals to grasp

complex concepts, retain information, and perform optimally in academic pursuits. By

harnessing cognitive processes, organization strategies, and engagement

techniques, students unlock their full learning potential.

According to (https://www.bifrost.is/english/campus/counselling/study-

techniques) Study techniques are an array of skills which boosts student’s ability to

study, retain and recall information. These techniques can be learned and applied to

most fields of study and could include time management, goal setting, reading

techniques, mnemonics, glossary techniques and a positive attitude.

As the selected students form a critical stage in their educational journey

study techniques serves as the scaffolding upon which students construct their

understanding of diverse subjects, navigate complex curriculum, and ultimately excel

in their academic endeavors. From traditional methods like note-taking and active

reading to modern approaches such as spaced repetition, pomodoro study method,

Freyman technique, SQ3R method, blurting, active recall, and mnemonic devices,

these techniques offer a roadmap for efficient learning and knowledge retention. This

introduction explores the invaluable contributions of study techniques to the

academic performance of students, shedding light on how these strategies empower

learners to unlock their intellectual potential, achieve scholarly success and lastly it

can greatly help in order for them to enhance their academic performances.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1). What are the long-term effects of different study techniques on

comprehension, application, and skill flexibility beyond instant/ immediate (ambot)

assessments?

2). Which strategies may be used to assist students in successfully

implementing cognitive abilities, such as self-management and reflection, into their

study methods in order to improve their academic performance?

3). Which study technique is the best for students in attaining knowledge?

4). What are the contributions of each and every study techniques in

enhancing their ability to gain information and improve their individual grades and

academic performance?

5). Which study techniques shows/demonstrate the highest connection in

improving one’s academic performance across different subject areas?

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This study compiled with the researcher started last march 3 up to april 15

2024.20 selected grade 11 students of Sibugay Technical Institute Incorporated

(sanito off campus) are the respondents of this study. This research is all about

exploring the contributions of study techniques to the selected grade 11 students in

their academic performances which is stated here in the research paper.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Exploring the contributions of study techniques is important because of their

potential to improve academic performance and learning outcomes in a variety of

educational settings. This study, which investigates the efficiency of various study

methods, provides significant insights for educators, students, and administrators.

Here’s an explanation of its significance:

Enhancing Academic Performance:

Knowing which study methods result in the greatest improvements in

understanding, retention, and application of knowledge can help students optimize

their learning practices. This information can result in higher grades, improved exam

scores, and overall academic success

Developing Student Engagement and Enthusiasm:

Identifying study methods that are compatible with students’ learning styles

helps boost their engagement and motivation. When students believe their study

techniques correspond with their unique learning styles and goals, they are more

likely invest time and effort to their studies, resulting in better outcomes.

Fostering Lifelong Learning Skills:

This investigation may highlight the need of creating effective study habits as

a key component of lifelong learning. This research can help individuals adapt to

new difficulties, pursue additional education, and prosper in their duties by providing

them with the knowledge and skills they need to study well.

In conclusion, studying the contributions of study techniques is important

because it has the ability to improve academic performance, guide educational

practices, increase student engagement and motivation, promote lifetime learning

skills, and address learning obstacles and unique differences. This research has the

potential to improve educational results and contribute
