Tutorial 4 Functions Questions

This document provides examples and questions related to functions. It begins with good habits students should develop when learning about functions, such as reading notes before working problems and understanding concepts rather than just memorizing procedures. It then provides several basic practice questions on functions, including finding values of functions, combining functions, and finding inverse functions. The document aims to help students practice and reinforce their understanding of key concepts in functions through worked examples and questions.

Tutorial 4: Functions

Good habits to inculcate from Day 1, for all topics:

1) Read through lecture notes before doing the tutorial.
2) Seek to understand the underlying concepts, not merely memorise procedures.
3) Solve the problem through prior understanding, not through merely copying (and modifying) the
solution from a similar-looking lecture example.
4) If a question is done wrong, do not erase it; leave it there and cross it out – useful for future
reference when doing revision. Learning from mistakes can be very helpful.
5) Annotate questions and notes along the way, so that you know what question to clarify during
lesson, and what concept you need to refer to in the future.
6) Do not be discouraged if success is not achieved initially. Keep trying, keep learning.
7) And sustain all the above for the two years.  All the best!
8) (And add on to this list as you go along and experiment.)
