STUDY VISA FOR GERMANY


BASIC INFORMATION

1. Use the following checklist to make sure your application and documents are complete.
All documents listed here are to be submitted in the requested form and order.
2. The German Embassy in Cairo is only responsible for applicants who have their habitual
residence in Egypt.
3. You must submit your visa application for a study visa in the visa application center of our
external service provider TLScontact. You need to book an appointment on the TLS internet
page.
4. Documents, which are not in German or English language, must be submitted with a
certified German translation. Alternativ: USA or UK.
5. High school diplomas, university diplomas, etc. have to be presented in original with
legalization. Your original documents will be returned to you once your application has
been processed. You must legalize your university degrees and diplomas before you submit
your documents!
6. As a rule, the relevant immigration authority in Germany must approve visa applications.
The visa can only be issued when this approval has been received.
7. That’s why the processing time is about 4 - 5 weeks but can take longer in individual cases.
8. The German Embassy reserves the right to request further documents.
9. Please do not contact the German Embassy to check the status of your application during
the normal processing period. Such inquiries are extremely time-consuming for the visa
section and can thus not be answered.

updates.
GENERAL INFORMATION

Foreign students who have been accepted by a German or a preparatory college (Studienkolleg) can apply
for a visa to study in Germany. You are advised to secure your admittance or acceptance from the
university as early as possible.

 During your studies, you can take up student jobs to help cover your expenses.
 Upon completing your studies, you will have the opportunity to look for a job.

BASIC REQIRED DOCUMENTS

1. documents must be submitted in the original! The original will be returned to you after verification
2. one photocopy of the documents is also required.

The photocopy must be copied on one side, must not be stapled / glued or tacked!

1. PASSPORT
 Passport is not older than ten years, has at least two blank pages left and is not damaged.
 The passport is valid for three months after the returning date.
 The passport holder has signed the passport before submitting the application.
 The passport holder is clearly to be identified with the passport photo.
 Copies of the data page, page 3 and previous visas (Schengen Visa, USA, UK, CAN)
 Copies of the last existing visas in the old passports have been made.

2. APPLICATION FORMS AND 2 INSTRUCTIONS

 Fully completed and personally signed national visa application form (VIDEX) and the
accompanying instruction as well as contact details

3. CURRENT BIOMETRIC PASSPORT PICTURE (2 PICTURES)

 The passport photo is not older than 6 months.


 The passport photo is taken with a white or light gray background.
 The passport photo has not been digitally modified

4. PROOF OF ADEQUATE HEALTH INSURANCE COVER

 The insurance is valid for all Schengen countries


 The minimum coverage amount is €30,000 or equivalent in US-Dollar
 There is no limit or exclusion of treatment (Covid19, pregnancy, age restriction etc.)
GENERALLY APPLIES

If as a student you want to take out statutory health insurance, you must bear in mind that this insurance
can only begin when you take up residence in Germany and after enrolment at the university.

If you enter Germany beforehand, private health insurance is required for the period between entry into
Germany and enrolment and registering for statutory health insurance.

In its terms and conditions, travel health insurance can exclude protection if a long-term or permanent stay
is planned. So-called incoming travel insurance can also contain such exclusions.

DOCUMENTS ABOUT YOUR TRAVEL PURPOSE

1. CURRICULUM VITAE

 was written by yourself


 is completely traceable
 contains a description of your training to date
 contains information on your previous professional activities including
*supporting documents (optional)
 is signed by yourself

2. MOTIVATION LETTER

 was written and signed by yourself


 explains your choice of study subject, motivation, expectations and reasons to enroll for a study
program in Germany

3. HIGH SCHOOL OR UNIVERSITY DIPLOMA (S)

You only have to submit your last obtained high school degree or university degree with performance
record. You need to translate and legalize your degree.

 Proof of admittance to a study course at a German university or a preparatory college in


Germany (“Zulassungsbescheid”), including information on the language of instruction

 Proof of B1 German language skills (if your study program is taught in English, please submit
evidence of your English language level)

The embassy only accepts B1 language certificates of recognized testing center, which follow the
“Standards of the Association of Language Testers in Europe” (ALTE)
4. PROOF OF ADEQUATE FINANCIAL MEANS

FINANCING

To stay in Germany the applicant must have at their disposal at least 934 Euro per month. Financial funds
have to be proven for at least one year that is at least 11.208 Euro (for example, in the form of a blocked
bank account or a formal undertaking by a third person to cover all costs).

In the case of financing in the form of a blocked bank account: Open the blocked account in good time
BEFORE you apply for a visa.

When applying for a visa, only the official confirmation of the opening of the account including
information on the amount paid in and the amount available per month will be accepted. A confirmation,
which does not include this information, is not sufficient.

YOU CAN PROVE THAT YOU HAVE ENOUGH FINANCIAL MEANS BY:
 blocked bank account (minimum 11.208 Euro per year, 934 Euro per month) or

 letter of scholarship by an official German institution or program (e.g. DAAD, Erasmus) or

 formal obligation (German: “Verpflichtungserklärung”) by a person living in Germany for the


duration of your studies

VISA FEES

The visa fee is 75,00 Euro and must be paid in local currency.

The fee is not refundable in case of rejection or withdrawal of the application.

Attention!

Do not lose time and money by wrong information! You can find all information about VISA and entry on
our website www.kair.diplo.de.

If you do not find information to your questions there, write us via our contact form. Third parties, such as
travel agencies, writing agencies, consultants, etc. or other websites give false information. If you trust this
information, your request may be delayed - and you lose money. Especially if someone asks for money for
visa information, you should become suspicious.

The information, leaflets and forms of the German Embassy are free of charge.
I HAVE TAKEN NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

 The submission of forged documents as well as incorrect information will necessarily result that
the application will be rejected and can lead to an entry prohibition for Germany (and possibly
also for the other Schengen states)!

 The submission of incomplete documents can result to a rejection.
