Our Syllabus

In our Madrasah, we teach following subjects. Please click to view full details.

Qaidah Quran Conversational Arabic

Islamic Studies Duas & Sunnahs

Qaidah
Our methodology is to teach Qaa’idah on a one to one basis, as this enables the children to work
through it at their own pace. This can be a slow process and at times a quick one, all depending on
the child’s self interest and enthusiasm to prosper. The children are given daily and weekly targets to
help them reach their potentials.

One of our core subjects at Darul Atfaal is the Qaai’dah lesson. We believe this is
undoubtedly the most important lesson of the day, so it’s the first lesson as the childrens
minds tend to be sharper and they are able to absorb more and better. It is also the longest
lesson, so that the time allows each student to be given individual help and ample time by
the teacher, enabling them to progress through the Qaa’idah at a good pace.
The reason a lot of adults lack in their recitation of the Qur’aan and are unable to recite
fluently and correctly is because their foundation is very weak. It is for this reason that we
place great emphasis on the children to perfect their Qaa’idah recitation, as attaining
perfection in the foundation levels will inevitably enable them to learn and recite the
Qur’aan in the correct manner, the way it was revealed to and recited by our beloved
Prophet Muhammad SAW.

At Darul Atfaal, it is our principle that each and every child starts off with Qaai’dah,
irrespective of age and what they may have done prior to enrolment to Darul Atfaal. We
believe this is a distinguishing factor between Darul Atfaal and all other respected institutes.
It gives our staff the opportunity to assess each child properly and tackle their individual
weaknesses.

The aim is to complete the the Qaa’idah within 2 years for a beginner. For those children
who may be at a more advanced level, their aim is to finish the Qaai’dah within a year.

In order to aid the transition from Qaa’idah to Qur’aan, special attention is paid to Tajweed
(the beautification of the Qur’aan) and Makhaarij (the correct pronunciation of letters) right
from the beginning. A record of each child’s progress from one weekend to another is kept
by the child’s Qaa’idah teacher. This way, teachers are well aware how much a child is
covering and progressing on a weekly basis and parents have full access to see their child’s
record.

Quran
Here we must note, the objective is not to finish Al Qur’an from cover to cover. Rather, the
objective is to teach the student how to recite Al Qur’an correctly and with confidence as it was
recited by the one upon whom it was revealed, Muhammad bin Abdillah ‫ﷺ‬.

Once the child has successfully completed the Qaai’dah, he/she is first assessed by the class
teacher thoroughly and then intensively by the headteacher. With this system, the child
makes sure to learn and deliver his/her Qai’dah lesson’s absolutely perfectly.

The headteacher will give the final verdict on the child’s performance.

Once the child passes the Qaai’dah, it is moved on to Al Qur’an. The child will start off with
the small chapters found towards the end of the Mus’haf, commonly known as Juz Amma.

Slowly and gradually, the student learns how to read Al Qur’an with full tajweed and fluency.

Together with recitation while looking into the Mus’haf, the student is also given portions of
the Qur’aan to memorise. Again, this is on an individual basis, so students can learn as much
as they feel comfortable with. The Hifdh syllabus begins with the simple Surahs (Fatiha,
Naas etc) then progresses to more challenging portions of Al Qur’an such as the final few
verses of Suratul Baqarah, Surah Yaseen etc.

Like the Qaai’dah, when the student is on Al Qur’aan, the record of each child remains with
the class teacher. A record of recitation, Hifdh (memorisation) and tajweed is filed for
reference and record.

Conversational Arabic
The beautiful language of Arabic is like no other. Rightly so, each and every one of us has a desire to
understand the language but due to not having had the resources, we may not have had the
opportunity to learn it.

Keeping this in mind, we here at Darul Atfaal introduced Arabic to our children from the
beginning and included it into our core syllabus.
Initially, we explored the many fantastic books already out there in the market. However,
due to lack of Madrasah time it became a challenge for our children to digest the lessons
and master the language even at its foundation level.

In 2013, the staff at Darul Atfaal decided to tailor their own Arabic syllabus which catered
for English speaking children from the foundation level.

We have a native Arabic teacher who specializes in teaching Arabic. Alhamdulillah, we have
so far received a great response from students who are benefitting from the newly
structured, engaging Arabic lessons. All lessons are taught in a very interactive manner with
the use of computers, personal whiteboards, projectors, tablets etc.

Alhamdulillah we have grown from strength to strength. Our level 1 and 2 books have
recently been published and we look forward to having our next book published soon
(Insha’Allah ‫)ﷻ‬. We pray this step is a successful one which is accepted by Allah ‫ﷻ‬, the
most kind.

Our Arabic Syllabus

A point that needs to be kept in mind here is that our Arabic syllabus does not concentrate
on grammar but rather on speaking and listening.

Book 1 concentrates on level 1 children who are usually in year 1 and 2 (foundation
level).
Book 2 concentrates on level 2 children who are usually in year 2 and 3 (intermediate
level).
Book 3 concentrates on children who are level 3 and above (higher level).

We aim to publish a fourth book in the year 2016 as well as revise all published books on a
yearly basis.

Samples of the books can be found by clicking on the links below. If you would like to
purchase a copy, please contact us and we’ll make the necessary arrangements insha’allah.

Islamic Studies
Blessing’s lie in following the footsteps of our beloved prophet, Muhammad bin Abdillah ‫ ﷺ‬who was
inspired by the creator in every possible way. Allah ‫ ﷻ‬says in Al Qur’an: “Say (Oh Muhammad): If you
(claim to) love Allah, then follow me (follow Muhammad ‫)ﷺ‬, I (Allah) shall love you and forgive your
sins … “

General Islamic beliefs, manners, etiquettes, morals and ethics, creed, basic jurisprudence
and seerah all fall under the Islamic Studies section.

This is a very important lesson of the day as essential information on Islam is discussed with
the children within the classroom and work is set to complete at home.

For this lesson, Darul Atfaal use books tailored and published by Safar Academy under the
supervision of Shaykh Hasan Ali (may Allah preserve him). For more information on these
books please visit Safar Academy on www.safaracademy.org

Masha’Allah these books are very comprehensive and include all the necessary information.
We pray for its success and acceptance.

Duas & Sunnahs

Blessing’s lie in following the footsteps of our beloved prophet, Muhammad bin Abdillah ‫ ﷺ‬who was
inspired by the creator in every possible way. Allah ‫ ﷻ‬says in Al Qur’an: “Say (Oh Muhammad): If you

For this reason and with this objective in mind, this lesson is of utmost importance.

Children are made to learn all the Invocations (Duaas) they need in their daily lives. From
waking up in the morning to eating and drinking to travelling all the way to going to sleep,
all the invocations together with the prophetic way of doing the action, the children are
made to learn and act the sunnah out as they learn.

This lesson is delivered in a group form, where children help one another maintain all the
duaas they learn as they progress through the Duaas & Sunnah’s syllabus.

This book is also tailored by the staff of Darul Atfaal and very soon, our first publication will
be available to purchase insha’allah ‫ﷻ‬.
