CHAPTER 1
The Problem

Introduction

Nowadays , one of the most problem faced by many people especially for the

farmers is how to finish the tall weeds around that they don’t have any difficulty to

cut grass with their dagger or bolo. Long grasses can damage and affect people and

farmers crops and possibly provide habitat for snakes that can harm other people.

Grass cutter powered by solar panel is an automatic system that is powered by solar

energy obtained from sunlight. The devices use a solar panel, which is the best usage

of solar energy due to which we generate electricity. Grass cutter powered by solar

panel are designed by the researchers to cut any grasses in public places like mall,

hotels, school, parks and private properties like garden, home, lawns and their farm.

This is what our study want to determine the solution.

Also the cost of fuel is increasing hence it is not efficient. So the solar grass cutter

powered is introduced. Solar grass cutter can be described as the application of solar

energy to power an solar panel which it rotates a blades which does the moving on

lawn. Solar energy is renewable energy. It is used the photovoltanic panel to generate

the energy needed to power the mover. The smart solar grass cutter may be

independent or autonomous. The essential thing is for it to work properly. To

accomplish efficiency, utility, and those things chosen, including positions, are

crucial.

To make Improvised Grass Cutter Powered by Solar Panel, this study will

propose a machine that is lighter and quieter and less expensive. Design dimensions

are highly important and need to be precise to maintain the cleanliness of yard.

Statement of the Problem

The main purpose of this study is to help people especially farmers who have a

lot of difficulties in removing the weeds and also to maintain the cleanliness of the

environment.

Specifically, it will seek answer to the following research questions:

1. Improvised grass cutter powered by solar panel

2. Test the efficiency of the product in terms of:

a. Functionality

b. Efficiency

c. User-friendly

3. What are the advantages of grass cutter powered by solar panel?

Hypothesis

H¹: Grass cutter powered by solar panel is not effective.

H²: Grass cutter powered by solar panel is effective

Scope and Delimitations

This study will determine the effectiveness of the grass cutter powered by

solar panel that is sustained by sunlight.

The main purpose of this study is to improvise a grass cutter that is powered

by a solar panel. The experimentation will conduct by the researchers on march

2023 and will end on April 2023. The study will focus on creating a grass cutter

that is powered by a solar panel.

Significance of the Study

This research is considered beneficial to the following:

Farmers- the researchers believes that this research study will have a help for the

farmers to make their work easier . Their efforts in cutting the long grasses in the

lawns will be reduced by this improvised solar grass cutter technology.

People- this is significant to the people who are only at home or hotels. This

technology will help them to reduce labor input in the cutting of not only weeds or

grass but also in the trimming of small trees in the surrounding.

Community- this research can contribute to a more sustainable and environmental

friendly community. This technology has a big role because the main target of this

study is to reduce human efforts by cutting grass everyday. And can be also beneficial

in areas that are far away and need to buy fuel to operate their grass cutter. This may

help and sustain the community to have a better and to beautify the envi

Future researchers- this as also significant to the future researchers to have a better

guide in doing related research. This may help them, to generate new concept of

knowledge and other ideas and discoveries to enhance their study.

Definition of Terms

Conceptually

 Grass cutter – a machine or device for cutting grass

 Solar panel- A set of solar photovoltaic modules electrically connected and

mounted on a supporting structure.

 Gasoline- Petroleum used as fuel for internal combustion engines.

 Battery- A device that produces electricity to provide power for electric

devices, cars, etc.

 Dagger- A short knife with a pointed and edged blade.

 Automatic- Working by itself with no direct human control

 Blade – A very sharp metal edge of a tool.

 Wires – A long thin piece of metal that is used to fasten things or to carry

electric current.

 Electricity – It is the flow of electrical power or charge.

 Solar energy- The light and heat that come from the sun.

Operationally

 Grass Cutter- also known as a mower, grass cutter or lawnmower) is a device

utilizing one or more revolving blades (or a reel) to cut a grass surface to an

even height

 Solar Panel- a panel designed to absorb the sun’s rays as a source of energy

for generating electricity or heating.

 Gasoline – a flammable liquid produced usually by blending products from

natural gas and petroleum and used especially as a fuel for engines

 Battery - a container consisting of one or more cells, in which chemical

energy is converted into electricity and used as a source of power.

 Dagger – a short, swordlike weapon with a pointed blade and a handle, used

for stabbing.

 Automatic- done or produced as if by machine

 Blade- an instrument with a metal length that has a sharp edge for cutting

 Wires – A length of braided, flexible material that is used for tying or

connecting things

 Electricity – the flow of electrical power or charge.

 Solar energy -is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or

electrical energy

Related Literature

A Solar Powered Automatic Grass Cutting and Pesticide Spreading robot project

is mainly to reduce the manpower and usage of electricity. Solar panel is used to

provide the source to the battery charging. It is an automated system for the purpose

of grass cutting. The source is drive from the solar energy by using solar plate. The

system control is done by the Bluetooth control. Automation is achieved by using

sensors and Bluetooth controls. Wheels and cutting operations are done using dc

motors. DC battery is utilized for powering and standby mode operation of the

system. The whole supply is provided through the battery and to charge the battery

Automated grass cutter is a fully automated grass cutting robotic mover powered

by solar energy with solar panel that also avoids obstacles and is capable of fully

automated grass cutting without the need of any human interaction. (Shyam Lal

In present generation grass cutter machines are becoming very popular today.

Pollution is manmade, which we can be seen in our daily life. In old model of grass

cutter IC engine was used and hence because of its environmental impact, pollution

level rises . IC engine driven cutter is more costly. Maintenance of such conventional

machine is more. (Mudda, Teja, Kumar, Pradeen, 2018.)

A solar grass cutter is a machine that uses sliding blades to cut a lawn at an even

length. Even more sophisticated devices are there in every field. Power consumption

becomes essential for future. Solar grass cutter is a very useful device which is very

simple in construction. It is used to maintain and unkeep lawns in gardens, schools,

colleges etc. We have made some changes in the existing machine to make its

Foreign

Automation robot is used in many of the fields such as defense, surveillance,

medical field, industries and so on. In this project, the robot system is used to develop

the process of cultivating agricultural land with the use of solar power. The entire

robot works like harvesting, grass cutting, water sprinkling and so on. (Nageswar,

According to Ismail, Al-muhsen, Fazreen, Zukipli (2019), their paper introducers

a new development of grass cutter, made as smart solar grass cutter, by using solar

irradiance as a primary energy source with the presence of a solar panel . This grass

cutter prototype is developed to reduce air pollutant and improve the current design

specifically the blade position based on the previous studies. With current technology,

this new prototype is designed as remotely controlled grass cutter using Arduino Uno.

According to Ulhe (2019), they have prepared manually operated grass cutter with

spiral roller blades due to spiral blades increases the efficiency of cutting. For

adjusting the height reel cutter is component placed on grass cutter. This grass cutter

used to cut the grass uniformly and also it can cut the different types of grasses.

According to Husqvarna (2018), a Swedish manufacturer, this year is also

introducing its Automatic Mower to the U.S. market (it's been sold in Europe for

about three years). It works much the same as the Robomow with a boundary wire

implanted at the border of your lawn. The Husqvarna model, however, takes care of

itself. Whereas the Robomow has to be taken out and set up and watched by the

owner, the Husqvarna Automatic Mower lives outside, mows when it's programmed

to mow and automatically returns to its base for recharging. The Husqvarna model is

also significantly lighter than the Robomow (15 pounds vs. the Robomow's 42

pounds). According to Husqvarna, this not only makes it safer, but it leaves no tracks

on the lawn.

Local studies

Most lawn mowers are operated requiring individuals to direct the machine in

cutting grass. In addition, some utilizes gasoline to run the engine, adding to air

pollution. To overcome the above limitations, this study is conducted to develop a

lawn mower that can be remotely operated in any direction by adjusting the wireless

remote control (Enogaling, Rabara, Tobias, Sumaylo, 2023.)

Fetalvero (2011) mentioned that tiger grass production can generate estimated

revenue of Php1M to Php2M depending on the prevailing market prices. However, it f

these raw materials were to be processed into soft brooms, an estimated 241, 890

brooms can be produced creating annual revenue larging from Php 3.6 M to Php 7.3

M. Figures may be higher if their primitive farming and traditional marketing

practices could be improved

The study of Ismail, Al-muhsen, Fazreen, Zukipli (2019) is similar to our study

wherein the studies both uses a solar panel and just different in the uses and purpose

of the study. Their study is developed to reduce air pollutant and improve the current

design specifically the blade position while our study is to improvise a grass cutter

that is powered by a solar panel to avoid the usage of gasoline. The study of Shyam

Lal Sharma, 2019 their study is different in our study because their study is automatic

and doesn’t require any human interaction while our study still needs human

interaction.

The local and foreign studies are connected to this research study with regards to the

usefulness and effectiveness of improvising grass cutter powered by solar panel

Chapter III

Research Design and Methodology

This chapter presents the research design and methodology.

Research Design

This study utilized an applied research. The development of the apparatus goals

to help assess the everyday problems with the presence of weeds and human efforts.

In a room setting, the presence of different weeds and human efforts would be

eliminated.

Additionally, the products creation was experimentally studied, also its grass

cutter powered by solar panel was tested. In different testing, there would be phrases

that would lead the testing to finding. There are quantities of solar energy components

that has been involved composing the whole technology work to be conducted. The

study manifested to successfully carry at the different processes in order for a good

outcome of the development of a grass cutter powered by solar panel.

Procedures

1. Structural Design

Before constructing the improvised grass cutter powered by solar panel, all

materials must be ready. A wood will be used as the medium for making the

outer shell of the external structure of the grass cutter. Each of these will be

cut in different sizes. The wood has a specific placement and will put together

in a desired manner so that the shape will be formed. Woods with different

sizes will be pasted together. Inside will be the battery, lawn motor, wires,

sparks fun Red board connected with each other. At the top of the outer shell

will be the solar panel. The blade will be placed at the lower part of the shell

together with the wheels at the lower side of the shell.

2. Setting Up Operation

The components will be connected completely and connections will be

checked carefully to ensure that it does not have damage
