1. Practice 01
Host: Dr Lee thanks for being with us. First, how do you beat your diet? What does that
mean?
Dr Lee: Well the great news is that science tells us you don't have to go on an (1) extreme
diet in the new year to be healthy and to look and feel better. In fact, you can use your body's
own hardwired (2) metabolism to fight body fat. So there's ways we can do this that we can
enjoy our food as well.
Host: Great! All right so, uh what about specific… what specific food recommendations do
you think people could take up to improve their diet…improve their metabolism?
Dr Lee: All right. The first thing to do is to keep your (3) insulin levels low. Our metabolism
is hardwired so you cannot (4) burn fat when your insulin levels are high. So eat less, insulin
levels go down and eat less often, don't (5) snack. So (6) fasting can be helpful but you don't
have to go crazy, just skip a breakfast for lunch. That's one tip. Second tip is actually to be
good for your gut health. Our healthy gut (7) bacteria, the microbiome, helps us fight body
fat so eat foods with dietary (8) fiber like whole grains, leafy greens, beans, (9) mushrooms
and fruits like pears and (10) Kiwis and also fermented foods. The other thing we could do is
to… in fact, this is a surprise. Use your healthy body fat to (11) fight the bad body fat. We've
got something called Brown fat. Brown fat is… can be triggered by some foods. Bioactives in
foods like tomatoes, onions, (12) broccoli, bok choy, carrots, Omega-3s and seafood: salmon,
cod, (13) mussels, clams, they all (14) activate Brown fat. The space here burns down
unhealthy levels of extra fuel and the key thing is that you can love your food to love your
health. All of these ingredients, these fat fighting metabolism activating ingredients are found
in (15) recipes that come from the traditional recipes of the Mediterranean and Asian
Traditions, so they can taste great and help you fight
body fat and improve your metabolism all at the same time.
