Concepts and Practicing Based on the previous activity, you have learned that a research report is a condensed form or a brief description of the
New Skills #1 research work done by the researcher. It involves several steps to present the report in the form of theses or dissertations. These
are recorded data prepared by researchers after analyzing the information gathered by conducting the research.
The purpose of a research report is to demonstrate or develop your ability to undertake a complete piece of research
including research design and an appreciation of its significance in the field.

Just like any other academic text, there are processes that you need to observe writing a research report.
1. Choose a topic. It should be a subject that you can understand and the one that interests you.
3. Check with the teacher or someone expert about your topic. You should double check the topic with your teacher or
someone who is an expert about your topic by conducting a phone interview or a face-to-face interview if the situation
allows.
4. Conduct research and take notes. You can use a range of resources; use your knowledge about literature review. You
can use books, periodicals, and the internet. Practice taking notes without copying everything to reduce the risk of
plagiarism.
5. Outline your project. This will help you in organizing your notes and thoughts.
6. Write the report. You have to use your outline as your road map in writing your research report.
7. Edit and reread the report. Of course, checking and correcting your errors are the hallmarks of a good researcher.
