A ELICIT
1. Motivation Show pictures this pictures:

Ask:Describe the materials?


What can you say about it?
What are the similarities and differences of materials?

thinking as well as other higher order thinking skills.
B.ENGAGEMENT
1. Activity From you bags get 3 things in their bag and 3 things inside the classroom.
Ask: What is the object made of?
Are these materials safe or harmful? Why?
C. EXPLORATION
1. Group Activity Manage classroom structure to engage learners, individually or in group,
in meaningful exploration, discovery, and hands-on activities within a
range of physical learning environments.
Group yourself in to 5 groups and each group will choose a Leader and a
reporter in each group:
A SAFER HOME AND SCHOOL
Science Skills: Observing and Classifying
Time Frame: 10 mins.
You will need: Paper and Ballpen

What to do:
1. Look around your classroom. List 10 materials that you see in those
places.
2. Classify the following materials as safe or harmful. Cross out the
harmful waste materials
2. Group Reporting Presentation of outputs
Ask:
1. How did you classify the materials?
2. Why do we need to know which materials are useful and harmful?
Guide Questions:
1. Aside from the materials given in the text. What other materials in your
home can you consider as harmful? Why do you consider them as harmful?
2. How do you properly dispose of the materials you have listed above?
D. EXPLAINATION
USEFUL MATERIALS
 Materials considered useful when it serve a purpose. These materials
may have properties such as durability, resistance to water, heat, acid,
flexibility, elasticity and hardness.

Characteristics of Useful Materials


 A materials that serves its purpose.
 Can be used for other purposes.
 Can be recycled.
 Can be dumped straight into a landfill.
 Something can be recovered from material.
HARMFUL MATERIALS
 Materials that bring hazard:
 Broken glass can caused cuts or injury.
 Toxic substances may also be present in the things you
commonly used such as paints, cleaners, fumes, gels, or
powders.

Characteristics of Harmful Materials


 Materials that are toxic to us.
 Materials that can cause injury.
 Materials that cannot be dumped straight into a landfill.
 Can pollute the environment easily.
 Takes too much to decompose.

E. ELABORATION
A. ADDITIONAL Look at the pictures shown and identify the materials that are useful and the
ACTIVITY materials that are harmful.
Ask:
How did you classify the materials?
Why do we need to know which materials are useful and harmful?
F. EVALUATION a.Put a check (/) on the second column if you find the materials useful, and
(X) if you consider it as waste.

their barangay.
 Then, ask your neighbor if they are aware of such program.
 Ask some advice how you can implement such program.
 Make a report about information you gathered.
