(ii) Any TWO from Sec.-B.
(iii) Section-C is compulsory.

Section –A (any five) 30 Marks

(Each question carries 6 marks)
1. Discuss in brief the assumptions of proportionality and additivity of Linear Programming
problem (LPP).
2. Briefly discuss the applications of transportation model for logistics managersin
corporate world.
3. Write short notes on:
a) Saddle point
b) Slack variables
4. Solve the following problem by “graphical technique”:
Maximize Z = 30 X1 + 40 X2
Subject to:
3 X1 + 2 X2≤ 600
3 X1 + 5 X2≤ 800
5 X1 + 6 X2≤ 1100
Where X1, X2 ≥ 0
5. Find out the initial solution by Least Cost Method and Vogel’s Approximation Method
(VAM).Transportation costs per unit from different origins to different destinations are
given.
Origin/ D1 D2 D3 D4 Supply
Destination
A 6 6 11 15 80
B 4 6 10 12 120
C 6 4 7 6 150
D 4 10 14 14 70
E 8 8 7 9 90
Demand 100 200 120 80

6. In the given 3 X 4 game, obtain the saddle point solution if it exists. Also find out the
value of game.
A’s payoff
B’s strategies

Section – B (any two) 20 Marks
(Each question carries 10 marks)

7. A marketing manager has five salesman and five districts. Considering of the salesman
and the nature of districts, the marketing manager estimates that the sales per month (in
hundred rupees) for each salesman in each district would be as follows:

Salesman/ D1 D2 D3 D4 D5
Districts
S1 32 38 40 28 40
S2 40 24 28 21 36
S3 41 27 33 30 37
S4 22 38 41 36 36
S5 29 33 40 35 39

Find the assignment of salesmen to districts that will result in maximum sales.

8. A bike seller keeps stock of a particular model of bike. Previous experience indicates the
daily demand of that model as given below:

Demand per day 5 10 15 20 25 30

Probability 0.04 0.20 0.16 0.40 0.12 0.08

Simulate the demand for the next 10days. Also find the daily average demand for the
product on the basis of simulated data.
Use the following random numbers74, 46, 13, 55, 14, 46, 64, 76, 85, 71

9. Define simulation. Discuss in detail the Monte Carlo simulation technique along with its
applications in business world.

Section – C (Compulsory) 20 Marks

10. A refrigerator company has three major work centres for manufacturing two models; P
and Q of refrigerators. The weekly capacities of the work centres are given as follows:

Per unit time requirement

(hours)
Model P Model Q Hours
available
this week
Work Centre I 6 4 1800
Work Centre II 4.5 3 1500
Work Centre III 6.5 3.5 1800

The marginal profit per unit from model P is Rs 800/- and from model Q is Rs600/-.
Assuming that the company can sell any quantity of either model due to favourable
market conditions, determine the optimum output for both the models and the highest
possible profits for this week. Solve it using Simplex method.
