During my fourteenth week interning at East Georgia Healthcare Center, most of my time

was spent working on my project and presentation. With a new patient representative starting at

our office this week, my workload involving patient records and documentation was lighter than

usual. I was assigned fewer tasks this week because our office is again full staffed, however, I

remained productive by helping wherever needed and running errands for our office. I had my

first professional job interview on Wednesday, it went very well, and I was offered the position. I

prepared by asking my site supervisor/office manager for her advice and interview tips. She

provided me with a list of questions that she likes to ask when she conducts interviews as well as

the good and bad responses that stand out to her. On Thursday, I assisted Nurse Practitioner Kim

Fulmer with health screenings at the Ornelas Harvesting camp in Lyons, GA. This camp had

approximately 180 workers, and our team of five providers managed to treat about 130 of them.

They are very efficient when treating the workers. There was a well-coordinated system in place:

one team managed patient check-ins and paperwork, another took vitals, the providers conducted

health screenings, and another team provided prescriptions to patients. Many workers we treated

were dehydrated because they did not drink nearly enough water with the amount of work they

perform. Almost all workers complained of back pain or hand/arm pain. We provided many

workers with electrolyte powder, back patches, and wrist supports to ease their discomfort. We

also had infographics which communicated information quickly and clearly available for

diabetes, hypertension, exercise. fungus, smoking, hydration, and foot care. If any worker needed

additional care, we made sure they knew how to reach our office. This opportunity allowed me to
see how important these camp visits are. I could tell just how much the workers appreciated the

visit. They were very respectful and did not want to see the providers until they had a chance to

clean up after work. They even gave us some onions to take home and showed us how to harvest

them. I hope I will get the opportunity to go to another camp visit before my internship ends.
