Solve the following problems and make a video of your presentation to be shown in our GC. Please take
note of your assigned seat number.

Seat No. 1. A motorist is travelling at 72 kph when observes that the traffic light 150 m ahead of him
turns red. The traffic light is timed to stay red for 10 seconds. If the motorists wish to pass the light
without stopping just as it turns green again, determine:

a. The required uniform deceleration, and

b. The speed of the car as it passes the light.

Seat No. 2. A motorist travels along a straight road at 72 kph through a 40 kph speed zone. A parked
police car observes the motorist approaching and at the instant the motorist passes the police car,
the pursues the motorist and overtakes it in 20 seconds. If the police car travels with uniform
acceleration, determine:

a. The acceleration of the police car,

b. The total distance travelled by the police car while overtaking the motorist, and
c. The speed of the police car as it overtakes the motorist.

Seat No. 3. A particle passes over 200 m in a certain interval of 10 seconds, and passes over 325 m in the
next interval of 5 seconds. Find its velocity at the beginning of each of the intervals if the acceleration is
constant.

Seat No. 4. An engine driver suddenly applies the brakes and shuts off the steam when his train is
running at full speed. The train travels 29 m in the first second that elapses after the brakes are applied,
and 27 m during the second that elapses after the brakes are applied. If the retardation is constant,
determine:

a. The full speed of the train;

b. The time that elapses before the train stops,
c. The distance it will travel in coming to rest.

Seat No. 5 A car travels at 108 kph from A to B for t seconds, applies the brakes for 4 seconds between B
and C to give the car a constant deceleration and speed of 72 kph at C, and finally travels at this speed
from C to D also for t seconds. If the total horizontal distance from A to D is 3,100 m, determine the
distance between A and B.

Seat No. 6. Two particles start from the same point along the same straight line and at the same instant.
The first particle travels with a constant velocity Vo and the second with constant acceleration a. Before
the second particle catches the first particle, what is the maximum distance between the two particles?
Seat No. 7. A car starts from rest at point A and travels 273 along a straight road to point B where it
stops. The acceleration is limited to 7 m/s2 and its deceleration is limited to 6 7 m/s2. Determine

a. The minimum time required for the car to cover the distance.
b. The maximum speed during the interval.

Seat No. 8.A bus should travel a distance from A to B of 1200 m in exactly 70 seconds. The bus
accelerates to a maximum speed and decelerates from this maximum speed at 1 m/s2 starting from rest
at A and then coming to a stop at B. Find its maximum speed in m/s.

Seat No. 9.A point moves along a straight line with uniform acceleration. The velocity of the particle
changes from 6 m/s to the right to 6 m/s to left during a time interval of 4 second. Determine:

a. The acceleration,
b. The displacement during the 4 second interval and
c. The distance covered during the second interval.

Seat no. 10. A particle in rectilinear motion starts from the origin with a velocity of 3 m/s to the right and
moves with constant acceleration of 3 m/s2 to the right for 4 seconds. The acceleration then changes to
5 m/s2 to the left for 4 seconds, at which time the acceleration becomes 2 m/s2 to the right for 2
seconds. Determine:

a. The total displacement during the first 8- second interval and

b. The total distance travelled during the 10-second interval.

Serat No. 11. A point starting from rest at the origin moves to the right with constant acceleration for 5
seconds. The acceleration then becomes 4 m/s2 to the left for a second time interval. The point
travelled a total distance of 250 m and is 6 m to the left of the origin at the end of the total time interval.

a. The acceleration during the first 5 second interval;

b. The distance travelled during the first 5 second interval,
c. The total time interval and
d. The velocity at the end of the total time interval.

Seat No. 12Two cars are travelling in line along a straight highway at 108 kph. The front driver A applies
his brakes to decelerate his car uniformly at 4 m/s2 . One second later, the rear driver B also applies his
brakes. At what constant rate should B decelerate in order to avoid collision if the two cars are initially
50 m apart.

Seat No. 13.The motion of a particle is given by the equation s = 2 t4 - + 2 t 2 where s in meter and t in
6
seconds. Compute the value of v and a when t= 2sec.
Seat No. 14. A particle moves in a straight line according to the law s+ t 3 – 40t where s is in meter and t
in seconds.

a. When t = 5 sec, compute the velocity;

b. Find the average velocity during the fourth second and
c. When the particle again comes to rest, what is the acceleration?

Seat No. 15.The velocity of a particle moving along the x axis is defined by v= x 3 -4 x 2 + 6x where v is in
m/s and x in meter. Compute the value of the acceleration when x = 2 meters.
