1. SCOPE
1.1 This specification establishes the minimum requirements, codes and standards to be
followed by the EPC contractor for the design and procurement of machinery for a new
SCOP refinery to be located in Karbala;
1.2 During FEED stage, the use of this specification will be limited to the contractual
framework and scope of work of Karbala FEED Project.

2. APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS
2.1 Machinery, drivers, accessories and ancillary equipment (such as gear reducers,
couplings, lube oil system, sealing systems, coolers etc.) shall be designed, fabricated
and tested in accordance with the applicable codes, standards and specifications herein
mentioned and/or listed in the Material Requisition issued by EPC Contractor.
API Std 610 / ISO 13709 Centrifugal pumps for petroleum, petrochemical and

API Std 612 / ISO 10437 Special purpose steam turbines for petroleum,
petrochemical and natural gas industries
API Std 613 Special purpose gear units for petroleum, chemical
and gas industry services

2.2 Unless otherwise specified, the latest edition of the above codes shall be used.
2.3 Unless otherwise specified, equipment not listed above will be designed, manufactured 0
and tested according to manufacturer’s standards.
2.4 During the EPC phase, the EPC Contractor will include further machinery functional
specifications in the Material Requisitions, in addition to the API standards and project
specifications, for SCOP approval. The functional specifications – if needed – will be
for which it is specifically furnished or outside the extent of the agreed upon right of use.
3. DOCUMENTS PRIORITY
3.1 In case of conflict among all the applicable documents as data sheets, project
specifications, standards and codes, the following order shall govern, unless otherwise
specified in the Engineering Standards:
- Data Sheets
- Technical Attachments to MR (Client and Project Specifications, Particular
Technical Specification, etc.)
- International Codes and Standards
3.2 Any ambiguity or contradiction among the documents of the same priority shall be
brought, in writing, to the attention of SCOP for resolution.
