CHEMISTRY1 - energy could be added to the system or it could be

subtracted to the system. (basta maaram la tun magiging

Water – appears in 3 states of matter result)
- water exist on our planet in 3 stage Ex: You have here liquid water, and your desire is to make
 ice (solid) ice. What would you do? Add or remove?
 water (liquid) - Remove the temperature; that’s why the temperature
 water vapor (gas) will get low.

Energy 2 different Phase of Energy

- is the thing that we need to change the state of matter  Adding Energy
from one phase to another. - Phase changes require the addition of energy are
- when energy is added to a substance that energy causes called endothermic changes.
the particles in the substance to move faster and farther “endo” means “inside”, “thermo” means “heat”
apart. - Endothermic change, heat is absorbed by the system
from the surroundings.
What happens to the particles when energy is taken Processes involve in endothermic change
away from the substance?  Melting (solid → liquid)
 Boiling (liquid → gas)
 Sublimation (solid → gas)

- When we add energy to the system or in the substance its

losing. - it’s because we are adding energy to this kind of phase
change.
- Whenever the temperature increases the molecules is
also spreading apart and when the temperature decreases  Removing Energy
the molecules are compressing/it giving more attraction - requires the removal of energy are called exothermic
to each other. change. (exo means outside, thermo means heat)
- exothermic because it releases the heat.
Phase Change Processes involve in exothermic change
- energy content is responsible for the different  Frezzing (liquid to solid)
phases of matter.  Condensation (gas to liquid)
- phase change is always dependent on the energy  Deposition
content you are apply to the system.
The specific processes
 When Energy Content increases it’s the time for the 1. Melting (solid to liquid)
change of the phase of matter is faster. -melting is the changing of solid to liquid when the
EC↑ ∆S→L -the change from solid to liquid or substance absorbs heat energy.
∆L→S the change from L to S also Water: 0°C or 32°F
increases
- directly proportional 2. Freezing (liquid to solid)
 When EC is low the change from solid to liquid or -opposite
liquid to solid decreases also, Indirect proportional - liquid is changing to a solid is freezing.
EC↓ ∆S→L - freezing occurs when a substance closes heat
∆L→S energy and the freezing point of a substance is equal to the
melting point.
- Matter can be made change phase when energy is added Water: 0°C or 32°F
or taken away from the substance.
3. Vaporization (liquid to gas)
- is changing of a liquid to a gas when the substance directly from the gas to the solid state on
substance absorbs heat energy. cooling, without passing through the liquid state.
- vaporization only occurs - An example of deposition is when water vapor in the
- vaporization is just the process that is part of boiling. atmosphere changes directly into ice, such as the
formation of frost.

Evaporation
- a cooling process
 As water in the perspiration evaporation from
your skin it absorbs and carries away heat energy
from your body.
- Evaporation doesn’t need boiling process.

Boiling
- We have a certain point at which we’re meeting to make
the liquid boil.
- if enough heat energy is applied to a substance particle
inside the liquid can change to gas.
- These particles travel to the surface of the liquid and
then into the air. This process is called boiling.
- Boiling is for the general forms of liquid.

Water: 100°C or 212°F

Condensation (gas to liquid)
- is the process by which water vapor in the air is changed
into liquid water; it's the opposite of evaporation.
- a substance in the gas phase that loses heat will change
to a liquid. This is called condensation
Examples:
- Water droplets on the outer surface of cold drink bottle.
 - Reading glasses fogging up.
 - Morning dew on the grass.
Sublimation (solid to gas)
- is the change solid to gas phase. Change occurs when the
surface particles of a solid change directly into a gas.
Ex:
- Dry ice (goes directly from solid carbon dioxide to gas)
- Albatross
Deposition
- is when a substance in gas form changes states to become
a solid.
-Deposition is the transition of a substance directly from
the gas to the solid state on cooling, without passing
through the liquid state. Deposition is the transition of a
