Observation Form 1
1-What was/were the learning objectives/outcomes of the lesson? (Add state objectives if
known) To make sure that student understood the lesson and had solid understanding of the
concepts. Teacher went over various different type of problems to ensure that the students
understood it.
Teacher began her lesson with a warm up for students. She wrote a problem on the white board
and asked her students to solve the problem that they covered in class a day before and to solve
it. She went over the problem with her students to get them more engaged. Her lesson ended with
some independent practice. That students practiced a couple of problems themselves.
3-What did the teacher use for teaching materials or instructional aids/equipment?
Teacher was utilizing simple methods to keep the students engaged and making sure that they
were understanding the material they were suppose to be learning.
5-How did the teacher assess learning?
Through the use of warm ups to gage if the students grasped the concept because following was
building on the previous one.
6- What can you say about the teacher’s philosophy/beliefs and style? (Traditional,
progressive, behaviorist, student-centered vs. teacher-centered, authoritative, etc.)
Traditional style of teaching it was working well for her and she made sure that her students
were learning.
7-How does the teacher manage classroom? Can you identify classroom management
techniques used?
Students were quite during the lesson and made attention to teacher. I didn’t stay long enough to
identify that.
8-Observe in the classroom setting and determine the types of behavior students play when
off-task. What do they do when they are not paying attention? How does the teacher re-
direct them or get them back on task?
Students were sometimes bored or tired because the class was after so they were tired and the
teacher got their attention through telling them if they paid attention go through their lesson they
will get last 10 minutes to do whatever they liked and student bought in.
9-How does the teacher communicate with students (verbal, vocal, meta-verbal or non-verbal
communication such as facial, body language, use of space, motion and time?) Teacher used all
sort of different ways of communicating.
10-Who were the students in the class? What did you notice about them? (Background,
diversity, attitude, motivation, interaction, participation, etc)
Students were diverse and they were of different backgrounds and seemed to be really engaged
in learning.
11-What did you see that is effective in engaging students? What do you see that is
ineffective in keeping students engaged?
Offering them free time is a big one because the class that I observed was after lunch and they
seemed tired most likely wanted rest. If they get offered that often they may start taking
advantage of that.
12-What are the two instructional strategies you observed and would like to apply in your
classroom?
The use of time management as well as warm ups they seem like they were helpful.
