CE0023 – HIGHWAY ENGINEERING
MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION TO HIGHWAY AND RAILWAY ENGINEERING
INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOME

1. SHORT INTRODUCTION

 Highway engineering is a form of engineering that focuses on the planning, design,

construction, and operation of highways, tunnels, and bridges to provide people with
mobility as well as the transportation of products and services across the country. It offers
people with mobility, allowing them to be transferred from one location to another.
Goods and services are efficiently conveyed to the necessary facilities. The developing
field of highway engineering stated the need of learning this topic. Our professor
explained why the course is important and how it relates to other civil engineering
subjects that we will study further as we continue. The subject matter will be relevant for
students studying the field of highway engineering.

2. LEARNING OUTCOMES FROM THE TOPIC

 To be able to identify the importance of transportation in our daily lives.

 To be able to identify the modes of transportation and how to properly access them.
 To be able to fully understand effectiveness of transporation when it comes to people and
goods.
 To be able to understand the impact of transportation engineering in the industry and for
daily recreation.
 To be able to have a foundation on what the subject matter is all about.

3. BASE ON PERSONAL VIEWS, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED AND

CONCLUSION

 I've discovered that highway engineering is excellent for students who aspire to become
highway engineers in the future. It is also crucial for those students who want to learn
about how our transportation system benefits us in our daily lives. I have learned about
the optimization of our transportation system and how it affects our entire community.
Different forms of transportation were also introduced, providing me with more
information on how the environment affects highways, urban transit, rail, water, and air
transportation. Transportation engineering is crucial for travel. Engineers design the
routes we use to work and school. We can access locations we've never been before
thanks to engineers who built roads, bridges, and tunnels.
