Benj Top and Dress
° hook size recommended for the yarn you chose and a hook size higher (I
used 3.00 mm and 3.50 mm hooks). The higher hook size will only to be used
when stated in the pattern.
° measuring tape
° stitch markers
° darning needle
° scissors
Stitch Used;
° chain (ch)
° slip stitch
First, measure your bust and split the size in half then
minnus 2. That will be the length of the foundation chain that
you are going to make for the shell stitch design in the front
part of the top.
Second, measure from your under bust across your breast up to your
armpit line. This will be the length of multiple rows of shell stitch that
you are going to make for the front part of the top. More than enough
to cover your breast for a tube-like top.
Ex. 7 inches.
Third, measure your under bust. The total will be divided into 4. You
will need this for the bottom part design. Hem part.
Work a starting or foundation chain. The starting chain should have a series of chain stitches in
a multiple of 6 stitches plus 2 with the length using the measurement you did awhile ago following
the first measurement above.
°Work five double crochet stitches into the next chain stitch.
°Repeat until the end of the row, ending with a single crochet in the final
stitch.
Skip the next two stitches, and work a single crochet stitch into the
next double crochet. You should work into the center stitch in the
grouping of shell stitches in the row below.
6.Continue Row 2
°Skip the next two stitches. Work a single crochet stitch into the middle of the next shell.
°Skip the next two stitches. Work a group of five double crochet stitches into the next stitch.
°When you reach the end of the row, work three double crochet stitches into the last single crochet,
forming another half shell.
7.Begin Row 3
Chain 1 (ignore stitch) and make a single crochet stitch into the first stitch.
Repeat this sequence across the row, alternating shells and single crochet stitches all the way
across:
°Skip the next two stitches. Work a group of five double crochet stitches into the next stitch.
°Skip the next two stitches. Work a single crochet stitch into the middle of the next shell.
°At the end of the row, work your last single crochet stitch into the turning chain.
Repeat rows two and three for your pattern repeat until you reach the length needed. The second
that you made awhile ago. But please make sure to end with a row starting with half shell or even
number total of rows. (Picture below) We need that later for easy decrease.
In the picture.
Find your front side of the shell stitch rows. Any side will do, you just have to pick which one.
2. Attach yarn to the very first stitch of your foundation chain and
start chaining the same length and count as what you did to
the other side but don’t cut the yarn.
3. Add 1 chain to the multiple chains that you made and single
crochet to the 3rd chain from hook. That added 1 chain will
count as your first single crochet.
4. Make single crochet each chain until you reach the shell stitch area and stop. Study the
sequence as shown in the picture below.
Then continue single crochet to next added chains until you reach the last chain stitch.
9. Row 7. Chain 7 (count as double crochet and chain 5 space) and double crochet to the same
stitch.
Continue making v-stitches across row 7 and your last v-stitch before get to the added
chains should be in top of the last treble crochet from the previous row.
Then *double crochet to the 3rd chain, skipping 2 chains. Chain 5 and double crochet to the
same stitch*. Repeat ** until you only have 2 chain left then slip stitch to the 2nd chain from
the first stitch of the row.
11. Continue the steps for #10 and make multiple of rows according to your preference.
(I made 17 rows in total for the sample)
1. Attach yarn to the 2nd chain from the added chains to the
bottom part of the top.
4. Connect the chain with a slip stitch in the added chains from your
bottom part of the sleeves, 2.5 inches away from your first double
crochet stitch.
(I’m sorry, my picture for this part was deleted accidentally. Just follow what you did
in the first part of the previous row step #5. Slip stitch but just 2x)
12. Row 2. Slip stitch to the next chain space. Then follow the
steps for row 1.
Then repeat steps to the next rows until you have the length that
you prefer. In the sample, I made 3 inches long.
And in the very end row, make single crochet in each stitch to make a crochet edging.
RIGHT SLEEVE
1. Attach yarn to the added chains from the bottom part of the top.
2. Then start chaining the same total to the left sleeve added chains.
Connect the chain stitch to the side of the shell stitch rows by making double crochets
following the same steps like what we did at the left side.
4. Now, repeat steps from the left sleeve instructions starting in #5 up to the last.
1. Attach your yarn to this part (refer to picture). Chain 1 and single crochet to the next stitches.
2. When you’re already in the last stitch in the sleeves, skip the double crochet row space and
put your next single crochet in top of the first double crochet stitch.
Continue your first layer of crochet edging until you meet your first stitch then slip stitch.
1. Chain 1 (count as single crochet) and make single crochet around. When you’re in the
corners where you put *1 single crochet, 3 chains and 1 single crochet to the same stitch*,
make 3 single crochets into that 3 chain space then continue making single crochet each
stitch.
stitches and continue your single crochet to the next stitch until you have 7 inches long
single crochet stitches from the 4 chains.
3. Chain 4 inches long and slip stitch to the first corner of the squared shell stitch rows.
5. Please follow what is illustrated at the pictures below. Making *3 single crochet and
skipping 1 stitch* across the shell stitch row.
6. Continue your 2nd layer of crochet edging making the same spaces and stitch counts like
what we did in the first half part of the back part.
String
Attach your yarn to the 3rd corner of the squared shell stitch rows and start making 2 double crochet
rows for the string. You can actually use any string stitch that you like for about 30 inches long.
