INSIGHTS

ou know when youve had a bad day?- A day when you woke up and the world was against you from the start. Let me paint a better picture. You wake up at the time that your class starts. You would just keep sleeping, but the reason you overslept is because you were up late studying for a HUGE test that youre now late for. It isnt bad enough youre late to class, you make a big show of it by sprinting there and busting in the classroom door like you have a small child to save from a fire. This is after, of course; youve passed that hottie from down the hall looking like a hot mess with your retainer still in and the wildest bed head imaginable attached to your scalp. You finally look at the test, and your brain becomes a complete blank slate. If the test was multiple choice, youd be fine, but this beauty is fill-in-the-blank, without a word bank, because your professor is from a whole other level of hell.Ill spare you the rest of my rendition of The Worst Day Ever. Some may cope with bad days by going for a good run, you know, away from your problems, or play video games until you feel like a winner again. On a day such as this I, however, would turn to Ben & Jerrys. Fro-yo is nice, but when a bad day like a break-up comes along every girl really just wants to be armed
Fro-yo is nice, but when a bad day like a breakup comes along, every girl really just wants to be armed to ght the day with a pint of Ben & Jerrys nest.
to fight the day with a pint of Ben & Jerrys finest. I cant eat my feelings in frozen yogurt, because they dont taste as good! Sure the calories may not be much to regret later, but at least they leave a better taste in my mouth. I know everyone is on a healthy, organically, earthy kick, but why does it have to come between me, Ben & Jerry? Can I add that Pink Berry sounds as stimulating to my appetite, as Mint-Berry Crunch sounds like a threat to any super villain ( if you dont know who Mint Berry Crunch is, Google it). I dont want berry in the name of my ice cream or frozen yogurt. It sounds like a berry I should stay a way from hiking in the wilderness to be honest with you. I also dont want sour or tart frozen treats, it makes me wonder if it tastes any different when it has gone bad. As a matter of fact, it makes me wonder if it has already gone bad. Granted the natural fruity toppings can make them taste better, but the toppings cant replace the ice cream, thats why theyre called toppings! I know some people are not going to agree with me, or think that Im being a little harsh, and thats fine. Its okay you like that theres a more healthy, high-class treat outside of the Frappuccinos at Starbucks to tickle your sweet-tooth fancy. You can keep your ice cream impost0r and live forever healthy, just respect the fact that I choose to stuff my face with the real thing and overdose into a sugar coma on cookie dough bites and fudge peace signs. Ergo I just say no, to Fro-Yo. Email:kkfields@radford.edu

Dear Frankie, How do you handle a long distance relationship while in college and still keeping the spark alive? Sincerely, Long Distance Lover Dear Long Distance Lover, Its never easy to go long distance with someone; believe me, I just got out of a long distance relationship myself . However, there is indeed a way to make a long distance relationship successful. First, you COMMUNICATE. I cant emphasize this enough that you and your partner need a strong communication and need to make sure you have a strong foundation to work with. You also make sure that both you and your boo know when you can see each other and talk to each other; whether that be Skype, Facebook, phone calls or, better yet, in person. Its really hard to make time for someone else when you both know the schedules of one another are very different and hard to work around. Then, you guys need to both stay on the same page and positive about the entire situation. We know and we get it, its hard to deal when someone you care about and really wish was around isnt there. Yet, there really is no need to be pessimistic about it; if your attitude about the distance goes down, then whos to say that they wont do the same? You have to nd the strength and patience within yourself to put in the effort to make a long distance relationship last. You need to truly want to make this work. If not, you wont get far and ultimately you both get hurt. Take it from someone who is stuck in this situation now with someone of 10 years; you truly love them but you cant just toy them around just because theyre far away. Make sure you know what youre getting into. You may not like what the end result tells you about long distance relationships, but this is one time Im going to tell you to listen to logic and not your heart. Hope this helps, Frankie~
