REVIEW OF
DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
2.1. Introduction
Students have already done formation of differential equation and its solution when
it is of the following types :

1. Variable Separable
2. Homogeneous Equation
3. Non-homogeneous Equation

4. Linear Equation
5. Bernoulli's Equation

Nowwe give some definitions and examples for a quick revision. Also students will
need idea of Partial Differentiation for dealing with the topic of exact equations, so we
give some basic results with examples to enable the students to grasp the subject
properly.

2.2. DifferentialEquation
Adiferential equation is an equation which involves differential coefficients or
diferentials. For example:

dy =
() 2x + 2
dx

d'y +3+2 = 0
(i)
dr2 du

(iü) dy= cos dx are differential equations.

x

Ordinary Differential Equation

An ordinary differential equation is that in which all the differential coefficients are
W.r.t. a single independent variable. Thus

dy is an ordinary differential equation.
