Designer Notes
Band of hat is worked flat and seamed in the back. Stitches are then picked up around the top and worked
in the round. To aid in picking up stitches for the crown of the hat, work every edge stitch on the right side
of hat as charted but slip the first stitch of each wsr to create the twist for the bottom edge of the hat.
Stitches Used:
RT = right twist. Skip the first stitch, k the 2nd stitch then k the first st and slip both sts from needle.
LT = left twist. Sl first st onto cable needle and hold in front. K next st then k1 from cn.
C3 over 3 left = Cable 6 Front. Sl 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front. K the next 3 sts then k3 from cn.
C3 over 3 right = Cable 6 Back. Sl3 sts to cable needle and hold in back. K the next3 sts then k3 from cn.

Directions
Band:
CO 26 leaving a tail long enough to seam the two ends together. Do not join.
Begin Cable Pattern repeating rows 1-8 until piece measures 22” (or desired head circumference) ending
with row 1 or 5.

BO pwise/DO NOT cut yarn. One stitch remains. Place it on a holder (or locking stitch marker) while
seaming so that it doesn't get “lost”.
Using tail from CO and being careful to not twist, seam 2 ends together to create band.
Place 1 st back onto needle and then pu 89 more sts around top edge of band (90).
Note: If you change the band circumference you will need to adjust this number accordingly. You
should be picking up approximately 3 stitches for every 4 rows along the top of the band. Crown
shaping is based on 6 decrease sections so you should pick up a multiple of 6 then adjust the decrease
instruction using your number. For example: if you pick up 96 stitches, then begin with K14, k2tog and
continue in pattern. If you pick up 84 stitches then begin with K12, k2tog and continue in pattern.
Shape crown changing to dpn (or long circ for magic loop) when sts no long fit around circular needle:
Rnd 1: *K13. k2tog; rep from * to end. (84)
Rnd 2, and all even rnds: K.
Rnd 3: *K12, k2tog; rep from * to end. (78)
Rnd 5: *K11, k2tog; rep from * to end. (72)
Rnd 7: *K10. k2tog; rep from * to end. (66)
Rnd 8: *K9. k2tog; rep from * to end. (60)
Rnd 9 *K8, k2tog; rep from * to end. (54)
Rnd 11 *K7, k2tog; rep from * to end. (48)
Rnd 13 *K6, k2tog; rep from * to end. (42)
Rnd 15 *K5, k2tog; rep from * to end. (36)
Rnd 17 *K4, k2tog; rep from * to end. (30)
Rnd 19 *K3, k2tog; rep from * to end. (24)
Cut yarn leaving 12” tail.
Using a tapestry needle, thread tail through remaining 24 sts. Pull tight to close crown. Weave in ends on
