Maths

Division and multiplication Weights


• Multiply by 10 – move the decimal point 1 place to the • 10g = 0.01kg
right, eg 75.2 → 752.0 • 100g = 0.1kg
• Multiply by 100 – move the decimal point 2 places to the • 1000g = 1kg
right, eg 75.2 → 7520.0
Area – 2-dimensional shapes
• Divide by 10 – move the decimal point 1 place to the left,
eg 75.2 → 7.52 • Square → h x w
• Divide by 100 – move the decimal point 2 places to the
left, eg 75.2 → 0.752

Distance
• 10mm = 1cm l
• 100cm = 1m
• 1000m = 1km
• Triangle → 0.5 x b x h
Time
• 60 seconds = 1minute
• 60 minutes = 1 hour
• 24 hours = 1 day
• 1 hour = 60 minutes
• 1 hour = 3600 seconds (60 mins x 60 secs)
• Circle → Pi x r2 (Pi is 3.141)
• 1 day = 86,400 secs (60 secs x 60 mins x 24 hours)
• Always use the 2 symbol to
indicate cubic area, eg 2 x 3 = 62
Triangles
• Isosceles → Two equal sides, Two equal angles
• Equilateral → Three equal sides, Three equal angles,
always 60° Angles
• Acute Triangle → All angles are less than 90° • Triangle → 180o (same for all 3-sided objects)
• Right Triangle → Has a right angle (90°) • Square → 360o (same for all 4-sided objects)
• Obtuse Triangle → Has an angle more than 90° • Circle → 360o

Faces and Vertices

Shapes
5 sides – Pentagon 6 sides – Hexagon 7 sides – Heptagon

Regular Polygon – All sides and angles equal
Irregular Polygon – All sides and angles are NOT equal eg a house
Divisibility Rules
BY 3 – sum of digits must divide by 3
123 – 1+2+3=6 6 can be divided by 3
585 – 5+8+5=18 18 can be divided by 3

BY 4 – last 2 digits must divide by 4


112 – 12 does divide by 4
948 – 48 does divide by 4

BY 5 – number must end in a 0 or a 5

BY 6 – it must be an even number AND sum of digits must divide by 3


12 – is even and 1+2=3 so does divide by 3
114 – is even and 1+1+4 =6 which does divide by 3

BY 7 - No rule

BY 8 – last 3 digits must divide by 8


9640 – 640 does divide by 8
184 – does divide by 8

BY 9 – sum of digits must divide by 9


4518 – 4+5+1+8=18 does divide by 9
423 – 4+2+3=9
