System Requirements
The system requirements for Robcad are as follows:

Hardware
Recommended hardware configuration:

• Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz or higher


• RAM 2GB or higher
• Graphic card nVidia GeForce or Quadro FX series 256MB or higher, PCI Express

Operating System
Windows XP SP2, Windows 7

Note: If you are installing on Windows 7, you must set UAC (User Account Control) to Off,
and run Robcad 9.0.1 installation with administrator privileges (Run as Admin).
Tip: To see which Service Pack is installed on your computer, select Run from the Start menu,
enter winver and click OK. A window is displayed with the version of the Windows operating
system and Service Pack installed on your machine.

Software
Robcad 9.0.1 requires the following software:
• Prior installation of Robcad 9.0
• Internet Explorer 5.0 or above, configured as the default Internet browser.
• MKS version 9.4
• Exceed 14 (2009)

Before beginning the installation process, do the following:

1. Verify that the system meets the requirements described in System Requirements.

2. On Windows 7 turn off User Account Control (UAC) mode.

3. Close all Exceed processes.

The Robcad installation is a five-step process, as follows:


1. Installing MKS
2. Installing Exceed
3. Installing Exceed 3D
4. Installing the Robcad software
5. Installing the Robcad licenses

Important: Before beginning to install Robcad version 9.0.1, verify that Robcad version 9.0 is
already installed on your machine.

To initiate Robcad 9.0.1 installation, click on RunMe.exe.


Windows 7 users must run RunMe.exe under administrator privileges (Run as Admin).

When executing RunMe.exe, from Robcad 9.0.1, the following selection screen is displayed:

Click the button corresponding to the action you wish to perform:
• Install Robcad 9.0.1: a Windows-based installer that provides step-by-step
installation instructions (you can also use the Alternative Installation method described

below).
o You can perform a Silent installation – a command that you execute from a

command line window. This method is especially useful when installing


Robcad on several computers.
• Browse DVD Contents
• Install Online Help
• Install CAD Translators – install CAD Translators version 2.8.1
• Install Tecnomatix License Server
• View Product Presentation – an overview of the new features in this version
• View Release Notes – contains important information about new features, fixed bugs,
product list and system specifications
• View (this) Installation Guide
• Contact Us – contact Siemens PLM for further information about operating Robcad in
your environment

6B Alternative Installation
You can use the following procedure to install Robcad Release 9.0.1 using the InstallShield
installer. The installer provides easy, step-by-step instructions to guide you through the
installation of Robcad and its supporting software.
Important: Before beginning to install Robcad, make sure that all Exceed processes are down
and that Robcad version 9.0 is already installed on your machine.
To install Robcad Release 9.0.1:
1. Browse the installation DVD and click Robcad901r.exe.
Note: Windows 7 users must run Robcad901r.exe with administrator privileges.

The Robcad Installation Wizard Robcad on PC Setup window appears:

2. Click Next. The system automatically recognizes the location where Robcad 9.0 is
installed, and performs the following upgrades:
• MKS 9.4
• Exceed 14 and Exceed 3D 14
• Robcad 9.0.1
The wizard indicates the progress of the installation as follows:

When the installation is complete, the Robcad Installer Information window is displayed:

3. Select Yes to restart your computer immediately or No to restart it later.

4. Click Finish.

Robcad for Windows Online Help Installation


After installing Robcad on a Windows operating system, you can install the Online Help as
follows:
• Double-click Robcad Online Help.msi in the Online Help folder or right-click the file
and select Install.
The online help files are automatically installed under the existing Robcad for Windows
installation.

Silent Installation
You can install Robcad directly from the installation folder, or by first copying the contents of
the DVD to an accessible location, e.g., F: or C:\RobcadDVD
Important: Before beginning to install Robcad, make sure that all Exceed processes are down
and that Robcad version 9.0 is already installed on your machine.

To perform a silent installation:


In the cmd window, run one of the following commands
Install Robcad silently and restart automatically
Set an environment variable named ROBCADDVD and set its value to the installation folder
Or: Set ROBCADDVD=<installation folder>
Execute %ROBCADDVD%\Robcad901silentRestart.bat from the same cmd window.
Install Robcad silently without restart
Set an environment variable named ROBCADDVD and set its value to the installation folder
Or : Set ROBCADDVD=<installation folder>
Execute %ROBCADDVD%\Robcad901silentNoRestart.bat from the same cmd window
After installing Robcad, you can install the online help as described in Robcad for Windows

Online Help Installation.

Note: Make certain that all Exceed processes are closed before installing Robcad, otherwise the
install will fail. The result of the install is reported in the log of the event viewer application
session under the MsiInstaller source.

Licenses
2B

In version 9.0.1, Robcad PC supports both ELAN and FLEXlm license mechanisms.
Version 9.0.1 Setup configures Robcad PC to use the FLEXlm license mechanism by
default. ELAN Unix license server can provide floating licenses for both Unix and PC client
machines.
In order to use the ELAN floating license mechanism on PC client machines:
• Navigate to My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables
and add or change the system variable USE_FLEX_SEC to be OFF.
• Navigate to My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables
and set the FLOATING_LICENSE system variable to point to the ELAN Unix
license server.
