Alright, Now Let me to introduce my co-presenter. The first

presenter will be Charen Baga, the next one will be Cathy
Bagongon, followed by me and the last presenter will be Jay Ann
Beatriz.
Okay, For this morning we will tackles about the heart and soul
of an artwork which is the subject and content of art. Oftentimes
beginners in art appreciation failed to understand an artwork
because they focus themselves all at once with all the factors
behind it. As a viewers or audience we tend to focus first on
subject, form and content of an artwork to understand a certain
artwork. After that, Deepening of our understanding will follow
because looking and appreciating an art work is always
subjective depending on an individuals personal tastes and
preferences.
Next slide pls,
For todays lesson we have a learning objectives, anyone who
want to read.
Okay, thank you Mr/Ms.

So without any further a do, I’ll give the time to Ms. Charren to
discussed her part in our presentation.

Thank you Ms. Charren, Now Let us hear to Ms. Cathy the
differences between representational and non representational
art.

Alright, we already know what are the meaning and difference

between subject and content of art and also, the
representational and non representational arts.
Now, let us know what are the different kinds and sources of
subjects that uses by different artist. Okay, As a viewer or
audience we often imagine, and there’s a lot of question in our
minds as to where an artist gets his inspiration from with regard
to how he produces a certain masterpiece.
So the following are the some sources of the artists inspiration
for their work,
The first one is our nature,
This has been a common subject and inspiration of the artist
just for examples animals and people and their activities.
The second one is History,
From the word itself, all art is conditioned by the historical period
in which it is created. Just for example historical people,
historical event. Whose purpose is either to remember important
events of the past, or teach lesson about the past.
The third one is Greek and Roman Mythology,
These are sources of subjects that came from the stories of gods
and goddesses of ancient Greece, Rome and Egyptians. They
depicts human like behaviours.
And for the fourth one, we have Religion,
It has played an enormous role in inspiring works of visual arts,
music, architecture, and literature through the ages. Artist used
as inspiration the religious text as the bible, Quran and torah in
conveying their ideas and beliefs.
And for the last one Sacred oriental texts,
From the word itself, artist used sacred text of their origin as an
inspiration for their artwork, just like sacred text of Hinduism,
Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, and
Islam which basically came from china, japan and india. It is
someone related to religion

Alright, we were now done for knowing the general sources of

arts, okay lets move on to specific sources of arts.

The first one we have,

LANDSCAPES, SEASCAPES AND CITYSCAPES
Many Artists have always been fascinated with their physical
environment, kung napapansin niyo po isa po ito sa mga favorite
subject ng mga Chinese and Japanese painters.
Here in the Philippines, we have a lot of popular artist knowing
for their incredible masterpiece in scapes painting. One of them
ay si fernando Amorsolo kilala sya for having romanticized
Philippine landscapes. Today Amorsolo’s paintings have gained
international renown for their luminous, sun-drenched portrayal
of Philippine rural life, customs and culture, which are regarded
‘true reflections of the Filipino soul’. Further more we have
Modern painters that seem to be attracted to scenes in cities, and
have done cityscapes just like Vicente Manansala, Arturo Luz and
Mauro Malang Santos.
• STILL LIFES
— Ito naman yung work of art depicting inanimate objects
arranged in an indoor setting like flower and fruit arrangements,
dishes pots and pans and musical instruments and so on. Then
yung arrangement ng objects is like that to show particular
human interests and activities. In our contemporary arts, the
focus is on the exciting arrangement and combinations of the
object's shapes and colors. From the combination of color, objects
and so on.
ANIMALS
They have been represented by artists from almost every age and
place. In fact, the earliest known paintings are representations of
animals on the walls of caves. Here in our country, The carabao
has been a favorite subject of many artist. And it seems that
every place in our country have animals that symbolize their
place. Just like The Maranaws have an animal form of sarimanok
as their proudest prestige symbol. Here in our provice palawan,
we have peacock pheasant which is an endangered specimen and
is endemic to our province.
And also Animals have been used as symbols in conventional
religious art just for example,
• The dove stands for the Holy Spirit in representations of the
Trinity
• The fish and lamb are symbols of Christ
• The phoenix is the symbol of Resurrection

PORTRAYS
People have always been intrigued by the human face as an
index of the owner's character. As an of expression, it is capable
of showing a variety of moods and feelings.
A great portrait is a product of a selective process, the artist
highlighting certain features and de-emphasizing others. Just for
exampe, the portray of the face of mona lisa by leonardo da vinci.

• FIGURES
— The sculptor's chief subject has traditionally been the human
body, nude or clothed. The body's form, structure and flexibility
offer the artist a big challenge to depict it in a variety of ways,
ranging from the idealistic as in the classical Greek sculptures to
the most abstract. For some artist, physical beauty was the
symbol of moral and spiritual perfection; thus they portrayed
gods and goddesses as possessing perfect human shapes.

EVERYDAY LIFE
Many artist have recorded in paintings their observation of
people going about their usual ways and performing their usual
tasks. They have always shown a deep concern about life around
them. Just like the painting of fernando amorsolo Lavandera that
depict a laundry woman.
HISTORY AND LEGEND
History consists of verifiable facts, On the other hand, legends
present to viewers of the arts something tangible even when
unverifiable. Although many of them are often accepted as true
because tradition has held them so far. History and Legend are
popular subjects of art. Here in the Philippines, we have a
legendary stories si Malakas and Maganda and Mariang Makiling
which have been rendered in painting and sculpture by not a few
Filipino artists. And for the history we have the making of
philippine flag and Spolarium by Juan luna.

RELIGION AND MYTHOLOGY

Art has always been a handmaiden of Religion. Most of the
world's religions have used the arts to aid in worship, to instruct,
to inspire feelings of devotion and to impress and convert
nonbelievers. Just for example, the christian Church
commissioned craftsmen to tell the stories about Christ and the
saints in pictures, usually in mosaics, murals and stained glass
windows in churches.

And for the last one, we have DREAMS AND FANTASIES,

Dreams are usually vague and illogical. Artists especially the
surrealists have tried to depict dreams as their sources of art that
lurk in the depths of their subsconscious. A dream may be life like
situation. Therefore, we would not know if an artwork is based on
a dream unless the artist explicitly mentions it.
But if the picture suggests the strange, the irrational and the
absurd, we can classify it right away as a fantasy or dream
although the artist may not have gotten from the idea of a dream
at all but the workings of his imagination. But remember, No
limits can be imposed on an artist's imagination.

Alright, we are done now to the sources of art, let us now

proceed to the content of art, this will be discuss by Ms. Beatriz.

Thank you Ms. BEARTIZ WE ARE NOW DONE FOR DISCUSSING

OUR LESSON FOR THIS MORMING, DO YOU HAVE ANY
QUESTION, CLARIFICATION, OR ADDIRION TO OUR TOPIC.
OKAY, I GUESS NONE
NOW FOR THE SUMMARIZATION OF OUR LESSON;
 We have two kinds of arts, the representational art and non
representational art. In representational Art or objective art,
artist used form" and concerned with "what" is to be
depicted in the artwork. While Non Representational Art
naman po, It uses "content" and is concerned with "how"
the artwork is depicted.
 The difference between an artwork's subject and its content
is that, the subject matter is what the image literally
depicts. The content of the artwork is what the image
means. This may be far more complicated than the subject
matter.
For someone to better understand the content of art, there are
three levels of meaning. The most common is the:
 Factual meaning - the literal statement or narrative content
in the work that can be directly apprehended because the
objects presented are easily recognized.
 Conventional meaning - which refers to the special meaning
that the certain object or color has for a particular culture or
group of people when it is shown in an artwork.
 Subjective meaning - which refers to the individual meaning
deliberately expressed by the artist using personal
symbolism that stems from his own alliance with certain
objects, actions, or colors with past experiences.

And that’ will be all, thank you for listening Again we are the
group 2 presenter. A pleasant morning to everyone.
