FINACLE OVERVIEW/ARCHITECTURE

General Overview

• Finacle 10 is a fully web-enabled, fully ONS based and scalable core banking application that
provides a unified view across retail, corporate, treasury and trade finance.

• It covers both front office and back office functionalities.

• It allows easy integration of delivery channels and interface with other web-enabled systems.

• It is flexible, easy to customize, multi-currency, multi-lingual and offers extensive support for
financial and regulatory reporting

• It has extensive security, audit and control features

TERMINOLOGY

USER GROUPS
User Groups in Finacle are denoted by the term ‘Application names’.
All users logging into the application will have a user id and a password. Based on the kind
of banking operations performed by these users they will be grouped into User Groups.
It is this User Group that decides the super set of all the operations that a user can perform.

Examples of User groups are: General Users, Tellers, Business Operations Manager,
Customer relations Officer etc

WORK CLASS
Each user is associated with a work class. This work class is also associated with each of
the menu option available in the application.
Different persons in the same user group can be assigned with different responsibilities with
reference to the application by assigning different work class.

USER TENOR
The accessibility of the user depends on the user’s status. The status of the user can be of two
types:
CAPTIVE
The user with a captive status can access the data belonging to his service outlet alone but can
inquire on the accounts belonging to other SOL.

FREE
The free user can access the data belonging to all service outlets..

SECURITY, CONTROL AND AUDIT

• Dual control (Maker Checker) for all transactions:


On every transaction and every account, you do an Entry (just the data entry), Posting (a/c
balance gets affected) and verification.

• Controlled error handling through exceptions:


Error Handling : eg., if you are exceeding debit limit in a particular account, you can generate
an error through exception. It will be logged in audit log with time and date stamp and
persons name.

• Audit for both financial and non- financial transactions:


There is an audit table which stores both financial and non-financial transactions. There is a
menu option in the product in which u can define criteria of query on the audit log.
E.g. of a non-financial transaction. Creation of customer profile.

• Financial transactions : date, entry time, passing and verification details

• Non-financial transactions: before and after image details

EXCEPTION HANDLING

• Exception handling
– definable and controllable error handling system

Types of exception:

Normal routine: User allowed to proceed with a warning. E.g: Interest calculation not up to date

Exception: User is allowed based on the level E.g: A/c frozen

Error : Not allowed for all the users. E.g: Account balance not sufficient

TELLERS AND THEIR QUALITIES
Tellers are the bank’s major point of contact with customers and the general public. Therefore great care must be
taken in the choice of personnel for this position.

Constant attention must be paid by management to the quality of service provided and the appearance
presented at the tellers’ counters. ………Tellers display the image of the bank

Tellers must be polite and efficient. They must be service-oriented while also maintaining checks and balances.

Quality of service is also perceived by customers at the “moment of truth”, when customers have encounter with
tellers in the banking halls.

• Every user needs to be assigned a USER ID to access Finacle

• Finacle has different modules depending on access granted. (CRM –Customer relationship mgt; FINCORE; SVS –
Signature verification system, Change credentials)

• Upon accessing Finacle URL, this page is displayed

• Input User ID and password ( the strength of the password and length is very important-password should be a
combination of alphabets, numbers and special character and minimum of 8 digits)

• Input your token as a second authentication factor.

• Your last login date is displayed ( this is a control to confirm that our user id has not been accessed
illegally)
• Password expiration date is also displayed
• On SOLUTION ICON, select the module you wish to access FINCORE

• The list of menu’s assigned to you will be displayed on the left hand corner
• To log off, click on the icon on the extreme right hand ( above CCY Converter)
• User ID, Sol id, Date, Menu shortcut can be found on the top right corner

Types of Transaction Status:


1. Entered : when added
2. Deleted: when deleted
3. Posted: when posted

TRANSFER TRANSACTIONS (HTM)

• The teller can move money from one account to another by using
the above menu. This could be done via cheques, withdrawal
slips, letter or any other instrument dully authorized by the account
holder.
Types of Transaction Type/Subtype:
(i.) T/BI – Transfer/Bank Induced
(ii.) T/CI – Transfer/Customer Induced
• Type HTM click ‘Go’ to proceed.

REVERSAL BY TELLER (HCRT)
• Reversal of teller transaction can be done using menu option
HCRT. However, the reversal must be carried out by the same
teller/user that consummated the first (erroneous) transaction.
• This menu option can also be used to mark a transaction
wrongly reversed using HTM as reversed to avoid COT charges.

• i) Where you just need to rectify the account numbers for both legs
of the transaction, select each leg and input the correct account
numbers, then submit.

REFERRALS

• Referring of process deviations to another user for approval of the


deviation is called referral
• Referrals can be amount based or exceptions based referrals
• The authorizer can
– Authorize the transaction
– Decline the transaction
– Hold the transaction for further verification
– Forward the transaction to another authorizer
– Cancel the referred transaction
• Referral can be forwarded to another person as defined in the
authorization matrix or escalated if not attended to after a
predefined period of time
• Referral inbox: Certain users have referral inbox in which he can see
the referrals made by him or sent to him for approval

• Amount based referrals are referrals sent to another user if a


debit or credit posting limit of a user is exceeded.
• Below is an example of an amount based referral
• If a withdrawal of N500,000 by a teller is to be referred to the
cash officer for approval

• At the click of Post, a referral pop-up page comes up


• Pick the user id of the person you are forwarding it to
• Click and pick the referral remarks code
• Put the remark if any and click on accept and forward

the referral id

• The supervisor gets alert the a referral has bee forwarded as seen
from the page below and he will type HRINBX at menu box and
click Go

• Exception based referrals are referrals sent to another user if


an exception can’t be overridden by the initiator
• Below is an example of an exception based referral
• If an account is frozen for incomplete documentation and
forwarded to BOM for approval to make withdrawal
• The referral should be referred to the user that has the power
to override such an exception if not error message will come
up if any user is picked like we have the screen shot below.
• If you referred an exception for account frozen to a cash
officer, the error below will come up, so it had to be referred
to a BOM that has overriding power for such an exception

• The error reads that the user id role doesn’t belong to the
defined roles of the matrix id

• You will pick the user id of a BOM and submit to get the
referral id below

• The BOM gets an alert that a referral has been forwarded to


her and he types menu HRINBX to take action
• Click on the referral id
