ROADMAP FOR TECHNICAL GENERAL

Topics to study for tech gen;

1) POF (principles of flight)
2) Aircraft and Systems
3) Powerplants
4) Electrics and Electronics

In accordance with the above list, PRIORITY will be given… Follow the Pattern 1, 2, 3, 4.

Weightage will be as follows; (*Rough figures, weightage changes every time)

a) POF - 30 Marks
b) A&S - 25-30 Marks
c) Power Plant - 20 Marks
d) E&E - 15 Marks.

For thorough knowledge of the subject, please refer to OXFORD. Oxford is the bible for tech gen.

Starting with oxford, the 4 topics have each different Book. The topic is very vast so be ready to
give it time and patience...also solving questions is KEY.

• It depends on an Individual, as to how much Time needs to be given per day (Minimum 5 hrs.)
• Whenever anything is not Understood, Oxford provides CBT (computer-based Training) which
provides visual references to better understand the concepts. (Some might only do the CBT’s
because reading is not that engaging, which again is helpful, provided you are focused and
listen to what you see and hear).

There are two ways you can proceed with Tech Gen.

Method #1, To get to know the subject in depth using Oxford Books, #only if time permits.
Method #2, For Only Passing the exam within a limited Time Frame.

[BOTH will be explained].

METHOD # 1 -OXFORD

STARTING WITH POF (oxford):-

Chapters 1, 2 & 3; are relatively Simple Chapters. Do this on Day 1 along with Back Questions. And
do the Questions at least twice for every chapter so that it is sure in your mind.

Chapters 4 and 5; can be done on Day 2 (give time to questions)

Chapter 6; for Day 3, long chapter. Solve the Back Qn’s thoroughly, after reading the chapter.

Chapter 7; long chapter again, for day 4 and 5, divide the chapter in two.

Chapters 8 and 9; for day 6. (Important chapters)

Chapter 10; for day 7, 8 and 9. (Very imp. chapter and Vast) [Please do questions thoroughly]

Chapter 11; for day 10 and 11. (LIKE chapter 10, but questions are Important)

Chapter 12; for day 12 and 13. (Needed to know on, How Diff. Forces act on Flight, during different
phases)

Chapter 13; for day 14. (Important chapter, with essential information of shockwaves, do all
questions)

Chapter 14; for day 15. (Important chapter)

May SKIP chapter 15;

chapter 16; Day 16. Keenly solve the Back Qn’s.

(It may be necessary to allocate more time on Topics, if for some reason it is not understood. And
additionally, the period of completion can be extended to 18 Days)

AIRFRAMES AND SYSTEMS:- (Oxford)

Chapter 1; for day 1 and 2. (Do Back Questions)

Chapter 2; for day 3 and 4. (Back Questions)

Chapters 3, 4, 5, 6; for day 5 and 6 (Important, Do Back Questions)

Chapter 7 and Chapter 9; for day 7. (SKIP CHAPTER 8, already done in POF)

Chapter 10 and chapter 11; for day 8 (Important, along with Back Questions)

Chapter 12; for day 9 (Important)

Chapter 13 and chapter 14; for day 10 (Very important)

Chapter 15; for day 11 (important as well)

Chapter 16; for day 12. (‘Just remember, Water Separator- Impingement type, Humidifier)

(Moreover, the number of days required can be increased to 15Days. For any topics which need
extra time).
POWERPLANTS:- (SK)
For powerplants, the approach will be a little different. Here, Different notes will be used such as
Sahil Khurrana notes.

Powerplants is divided into two parts:

a) PISTON ENGINES
b) JET ENGINES (More Importance and Focus should be given to this)

For piston engines

REFER TO THE 3 DOCS GIVEN

Piston 001 & 002– day 1 (only theory)

Piston 003 – day 2 (Full document of 003 , mostly of questions which can be done faster, or if able,
include 001 ,002 and 003 on THE SAME DAY)

(ALONG WITH ALL QUESTIONS GIVEIN 003)

For jet engines

For the next 3 days, do the whole document completely along with questions.

Day 1 – 1 to 29pg (Important theory, go through it)

Day 2 – 30 to 52pg (theory finished for jet engines)

Day 3 – 53 to end of document. (all questions so complete it in one day

[10 DAYS is sufficient for both, can be done faster if more time given]

IF extra time is in hand, ONLY solve questions of OXFORD for all topics under jet engines. (For
pistons, Sahil questions are sufficient)
ELECTRICs:- (Oxford)

For Electrics, this is considered to be one of the easiest Topic…

Here, more focus is GIVEN to DC electrics. So, the study pattern will be through oxford.

All chapters for DC are needed to be done and only 2 chapters for AC as mentioned below:

For DC

Chapter 1 and chapter 2 for Day 1 (Important and easy questions)

Chapter 3 and chapter 4 for day 2 (few questions on protections and batteries [series and parallel])

Chapter 5 and chapter 6 for day 3 (Generators important)

Chapter 7 SKIP

Chapter 8 and chapter 9 day 4 (important along with all questions)

For AC

DO CHAPTER 11, AND CHAPTER 14 for DAY 5 (THEORY PLUS QUESTIONS)

-----x-x-x-x-----

At max, this will take around 1½ months to 2 months with proper concentration and focus to
complete the whole syllabus properly and in addition with time (minimum hours to be given). So, with
this, you will be well equipped with knowledge of technical general, not only for passing the exam
but also for Airline Interview Questions, which will really be beneficial.

-----x-x-x-x-----

Now coming to people who have limited time and want to clear the exam as soon as possible with
less material, there are notes which are short and can be referred to along with QUESTIONS. All
will be mentioned below.

METHOD # 2 – SK AND QUESTIONS.

Books here used will be Sahil Khurrana's notes (SK) and a few Question banks which will be given
below. For Sahil K notes, read the written part also, along with the typed document given in the
notes. Format of studying will be theory and questions (T & Q)

Time given to each (T & Q) varies from person to person but typically 2 and ½ for theory and 1hr
for questions.

Keep in mind that for questions (CFA question), you might not know the answers for it, but give it a
try (educated guess) and then look at the answer to verify if it is right or wrong. This way, even if
you don’t know the topic, which is being read in those questions, you will slowly come across those
topics when you read the notes and then you will remember that you did a question regarding this
topic in that question bank and then you will know how questions can be framed and then next time
you come across that same question, you will be able to solve the same question. That’s the motive
behind doing questions.
Starting off with POF:- (SK)

The document is 226 pages total (T & Q) when opened with a browser (Microsoft EDGE preferred).
So, the numbering will be followed on the basis of those page numbers given on the browsers and
not on the document itself. (Theory till 154pg, thereafter, questions giv.)

The CFA question bank is inclusive of all topics and from POF, POWERPLANT, AIRCRAFT
SYSTEMS and ELECTRICS.

Day 1 – 1 to 25 pages reading, just before LIFT chapter + CFA question bank first 50 questions.
(Answers given at end of document)

Day 2 – 26 to 47pg before stall + 51 to 100 CFA questions.

Day 3 – 48 to 74pg before stability + 101 to 150 CFA questions

Day 4 – 75 to 93pg before controls + 151 to 200 CFA questions.

Day 5 – 94 to 110pg before flight mechanics + 201 to 250 CFA questions.

Day 6 – 111 to 131pg before effects of shockwaves on cp + 251 to 300 CFA questions.

Day 7 – 132 to 154pg (Theory reading OVER and SK question begin) + 301 to 350 CFA questions.

Day 8 – Only questions for POF from SK notes. 155 to 164pg, read all questions and try to learn
from questions and answers. + 351 to 400 CFA questions.

Day 9 – 165 to 189pg all questions + 401 to 450 CFA questions.

Day 10 - 190 to 205pg all questions (try to solve as many as you can on your own and then look at
the answer) + 451 to 500 CFA questions.

Day 11 – 206 to 218pg all questions + 501 to 550 CFA questions.

Day 12 – 219 to end of document + 551 to 600 CFA questions.

Aircraft systems:- (SK)

The document is 262 pages (many blank pages). Total (T & Q) when opened with a browser
(Microsoft EDGE preferred). So, the numbering will be followed on the basis of those page numbers
given on the browsers and not on the document itself.

the Topic, Electrics is given in between the systems documents (image above) and will be skipped
and continued when explaining for electrics (electrics theory from page 67 to 100) *

Theory – till page 180pg, thereafter Questions from 181pg. (SK docs)

Day 1 – 1 to 30pg + CFA 601 to 650 Q

Day 2 – 31 to 65pg + CFA 651 to 700 Q

Day 3 – 101 to 146pg + CFA 701 to 750 Q

Day 4 – 147 to 174pg + CFA 751 to rest of document Q

Day 5 – 175 to 180pg (theory for aircraft system over) + start questions of SK systems from page
181 to 194pg

Day 6 – 195 to 213pg (all questions, try to solve without looking at the answer)

** 214 to 219 are questions for electricity **

Day 7 – 220 to 245pg (all questions)

Day 8 – 246 to end of document. (Important questions please solve appropriately)

Electrics:- (SK)

Day 1 – 67 to 100pg (Electric theory of the Systems document ^) + Along with question given in
that document for electrics that is 214 to 219pg

Powerplants:- (SK)
Please follow the one given in POWERPLANTS.

-----x-x-x-x-----

This is the end of Sahil Khurrana notes. At max, this will take around 20 days (about 3 weeks) to
25 days with proper concentration and focus to complete the whole syllabus, it depends on how
much time the person gives to the materials.

-----x-x-x-x-----

POINTS to remember, just before attempting the exam.

• 1 day before the exam, Go through all the REDBIRD Technical question bank. It doesn’t
matter if you haven’t completed the theory notes, just go through all the questions from the
document. (VERY IMPORTANT!)

• Also, go through the materials given in below mentioned screenshot.
