Laboratory Report Objectives

By the end of this lab, students should be able to:

1. Understand the concept of a Lakehouse and how to create a Lakehouse using Microsoft
Fabric.
2. Visualize data in a Lakehouse.

LAKEHOUSE AS ONE OF THE MODERN DATA WAREHOUSING TOOLS

A Lakehouse presents as a database and is built on top of a data lake using Delta format tables.
Lakehouses combine the SQL-based analytical capabilities of a relational data warehouse and the
flexibility and scalability of a data lake. Lakehouses store all data formats and can be used with
various analytics tools and programming languages. As cloud-based solutions, Lakehouses can
scale automatically and provide high availability and disaster recovery.

Question 1
General Knowledge

In terms of data, ‘future-proofing’ can be defined as the process of anticipating the future and
developing methods of capturing and arranging the data in a way that can minimize the gap due
to missing data or irrelevant data, for future purpose of relevant data driven researches,
correlations, trends, patterns, data supported evidences, past incidents, and many more. It can
give you the confidence to prove and support your past data findings and help reduce unwanted
shocks and surprises that can give business stress due to missing future-proof data. Explain five
phases of “data future-proofing”.

[5 Marks, CLO1/PLO1]
Question 2

General instructions:

1. Follow instruction from https://microsoftlearning.github.io/mslearn-fabric/Instructions/Labs/01-

lakehouse.html.
2. Upload your own dataset to the Lakehouse.
3. Use SQL to query tables and finally, create a report based on your tables in your Lakehouse
using Power BI. Interpret your findings.

Submit your report complete with answers from Question 1, example of SQL query with output, visual
query, data model schema, one page of Power BI report and rubrics below as a cover. Please fill in
your name, student id and section. Submit your laboratory report in ONE (1) pdf file through Kalam
platform by 31st of May 2024.
